I also think Americans are smarter than that, but I'm not 100% sure if this tactic will work. Who remembers House Representative Geraldine Ferraro? She ran on the 1984 ticket. Then again, Reagan did win in a Landslide by securing 49 state's electroial votes, haha.

I'll tell you what a feminist thinks about it: He's right. She's allowing herself to be used for political purposes in exchange for money and prestige. As far as politics go, that is being pimped. You can say they're just "playing politics" or that it's a calculated "chess game", and you'd be correct, but that doesn't make it anymore legitimate from a moral or ethical standpoint.

I will no longer respect any women who vote republican due to this pick.

do you feel the same way about the women who only voted for HC because she was a women?

I'm sorry guys, but I absolutely refuse to bring up her being female as a negative. (I realize that you "fantasy planet" types feel it is within your philosophy to degrade a woman, but I like to think I live in reality.)

I did hear about her pushing through legislation clearing the way for CNG pipelines to be established in Alaska, and I find that encouraging.

But her overall lack of foreign affairs experience really, really has me worried. Especially when you consider the "heartbeat away" aspect of her having the position.

Actually, from what I hear, a lot of my feminist friends voted for Obama. They wanted to vote the first woman president, as long as it wasn't Hillary. She seemed like a remnant of past/old politics. "Say what the public wants to hear and do what you want later. They'll love you after you've won." President Clinton's affairs in the Oval office and his affairs while Senator Clinton was on the campaign trail, why would she stay with him? Because of 1950's religious beliefs that you ALWAYS stay with the husband? No. It was because politically, she needed his superstar status. I don't presume to delve into their "married" life, but I'd hardly say their family is picture-perfect--the embodiment of the American dream.

The people I know who voted for Hillary back on Super Tuesday was primarily to see President BIll Clinton's hand back in the White House. Albeit, probably not a pro-active person in the West Wing, but nonetheless, guiding her wife through the pitfalls and issues. But that seems a bit one-sided to me. She doesn't seem to me like a submissive, even to her husband. (And I have heard her speak in person in public, shook her hand and traded a few kind words backstage).

Actually, she ran against an incumbent Mayor in Wasilla, Alaska and won. The ex-mayor tried or organize a recall campaign but failed. She kept her promises and won the re-election with an even bigger margin. However, the total population of Wasilla, Alaska is just shy over 5000 people. Again, not sure how we can extrapolate that to 305 Million Americans.

See, I don't even want to bring that argument or thought into this.  No reason to really.  And without an answer to one simple question, how is one to say that he did anything wrong at all?  Did anyone at all, EVER ask if they had an 'open' relationship?  If there's a yes answer to that, then it becomes a completely moot point.  Unfortunately, no one asked, so we'll never know.

I do totally agree with you on that.  Obama, however, was a leader in Illinois, a VERY populated state, with a rather fair cross section of america as a whole.  Is he the most experienced of the lot?  No.  But, he knows where he came from, and what the normal, daily plight of the US citizen is.  Something that McCain has NEVER known.  I lived under his reign more than long enough while living in Arizona, he has no clue what it's like to have less than a few million dollars sitting there, never has.  He has never had to worry about putting food on his table or fuel in his car/truck/fleet, or somehow try to figure out how to pay for rent, utilities AND a medical bill on a paltry sallary that places are allowed to call a 'pay check'.

I think the choice of Palin is great. Keep in mind, I'm not a fan of either Obama or McCain and will probably submit a blank ballot this year because I find the choices horrible. But I like the idea that there are a lot of ceilings being destroyed, as this is the Republicans' first nomination of a woman as vice president. The Democrats already had one, so regardless of whether or not people like this particular woman in question, it does break new ground. Obama's nomination broke new ground. Palin's inclusion on McCain's ticket broke new ground. Regardless of the partisan bickering that continues to go on, this election is continuing to break more and more ground. Not everyone is going to benefit from every piece of ground breaking, but that doesn't make the situations any less extraordinary. To claim otherwise is to bury one's head in the sand of partisan behavior and not to see the larger picture of how this is actually a move forward for everyone, even if McCain/Palin don't emerge as the winners of the national election.

Hah, quite true that no one asked but "open" relationships aren't allowed in Catholic relationships. And are seriously frowned upon in Christian families too. Then again, we are digging deeper into the seperation of "State" and "Religion." Sen. Clinton follows the United Methodist Church and President Clinton is a Southern Baptist. Then again, both religions do not believe in same-sex marriage, but does define a family as "one man and one woman" as opposed to "one man, one woman, and their attachments"

May not be 'allowed', but, then again, neither is cheating.  It happened, one way or the other. There's a lot of things that churches, as a whole, 'don't allow', but their 'followers', do anyway.

I think Obama said it best last night: "Now, I don't believe that Sen. McCain doesn't care what's going on in the lives of Americans. I just think he doesn't know. Why else would he define middle class as someone making under 5 million dollars a year? How else could he propose hundreds of billions in tax breaks for big corporations and oil companies but not one penny of tax relief to more than 100 million Americans? How else could he offer a health care plan that would actually tax people's benefits, or an education plan that would do nothing to help families pay for college, or a plan that would privatize Social Security and gamble your retirement?"

Then again, I don't know enough about McCain to give that statement weight or credence.

You obviously don't know about, or you have completely forgotten about, Senator McCain's history.

Still...even if you bury your head in the sand...you're "breaking ground."

Owner,

Okay - I'll ask; what is the "plan and direction" from Senator Obama? From the convention in general and his speech in particular I garnered this; if you've succeeded I'm going to tax you more and put more barriers upon any business you own. If you've failed, elect me and I'll make sure that the government takes care of you.

Convert me.

Why not convert yourself?  This information is easily available right here online.  Look up his platform, look up his campaign's position papers.  Jesus!!   How do you sit here and argue things you seem to admit not knowing anything about?

Obama wants to "double foreign aid," give "Amnesty" to illegal Aliens and get our Troops involved in "Darfur."
Those are three *GREAT* reasons to vote against him!
