G'evening all:

I have a strange request. I have a decided preference for hymns during scening. The lifting, soaring music is quite envigorating. What I want is music styled this way but with obscene or lurid lyics. Something to belie the "purity" of the words and embrace the passion. Please, let me know if you have any suggestions...

Ja, I could go for that myself. While not exactly what you are looking for.......MeatLoaf and Ozzie Osborne start down the path...........

*If you find it let me know, ok?

Not exactly what you specified, but the Metallica CD they recorded with the San Francisco Symphony does it for me.

I just now heard a song on the radio, starts out in a gregorian chant and turns into a woman with a come hither voice, heavy breathing; and a man talking sonorously, these three themes are intermixed and separated several times....

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately it sounds as tho it is in french......

I believe this one is gonna get popular so you will probably hear it sooner or later.............

This appears nearly up your alley...........

Once again proving the maxim, you are not strange or ALONE.

Seasons Greetings,
Ron

upon further thought, it might have been italian, in which case I would take a shot at Gwen Stefani.........just musing.

Enigma comes pretty close. It's almost a cliche at some of the play parties I've been to. The best album for this is MCMXC a.D.

G'morning all:

Thank you for the suggestions. While I'm a fan of all those groups mentioned, they don't quite fit the bill, even though Enigma comes closest. What I really want is closer to gregorian chant, but more symphonic. Deep, heavy movements involving a steady rhythm, something you can swing a flogger to, lol. Well, the hunt continues.

You might try "O Fortuna", from Orff's Carmina Burana. Maybe a bit of a cliche, but it would seem to fit perfectly for what you want.

I don't know if it's what you want, or if it's been suggested, but have you ever heard of the Gregorian "Master's of Chant" CD's? I think there are about 4 released now (different to the one darkangel mentioned I believe) and basically they are old songs remade into a gregorian chant style (though obviously not monotonic lol).

I always liked the first CD best...some of the remade songs were Metallica's Nothing Else Matters, Simon and Garfunkle's Scarborough Fair, REM's Losing My Religion, Brothers in Arms etc...

not really obscene or lurid lyrics, but they are often regarded as being like Enigma, with more singing

hope this helps
