A pollster on TV put it into football terms.....
Team Obama spent 4 days scoring a touchdown on the opening drive of the game. And then Team McCain just ran back the kickoff to tie it up again and regain momentum. He said it is a great strategic move for McCain who has successfuly knocked Obama's speech and the DNC convention off the news.

Used to be the parties respected each other's conventions.

Hey, cuz his Presidential campaign lacked donors, and he needed free airtime.

So, excuse his rude desperation...

quote:

Well, McCain has trashed that, just as he's trashed all the other positions I used to respect him for a decade ago just to walk in lock-step with the Neo-Cons of the Nixon administration. And duh, ya think the Obama campaign will return the favor next week?

Desperate men, act desperate.  It's like squashing a bug and then the bug frantically does a lot of ridiculous things as its slime oozes out everywhere...

quote:

He's determined to cut his own throat.

Yeah I agree.  Though I often liken him to choking on his very own vomit.  [sm=eeew.gif]

quote:

With all that "experience," you'd think he could run on something other than focusing on Obama.

That's because he's had 26 years of experience being an idiot 90% of the time. (not that I disrespect his sacrifice for the country.  though i disrespect him for temperamentally using that sacrifice in order to cover up his millions of other short-comings).  That's 23.4 years of experience being an idiot.

So with all that experience, his actions don't surprise me.

quote:

Cheney has experience. Rumsfield had experience. McCain managed to get shot down and sit in Congress while accomplishing nothing much more than objecting. And where has all this experience landed us? In several ill-conceived foreign policy issues and a severely damaged economy.

I've experienced enough of that shit. I'll be voting for Obama.

I can't wait for November, when the American people will shove all the Republicans crap back at them....in a Giant Landslide!  Pack it up boys!

Yeah, well, sorry, but Barney the dinosaur is dead now. Democrats haven't respected anyone or anything for years and years... and of course, I know, I know. It's all the Republicans' fault. The bastards...

Oh yeah, we all used to love McCain. Now he's the devil. He's Nixon, reincarnated. McBush. We all loved him though, swear to god we did... until he changed. The bastard.

Yeah, and the Democrats are all being so nice for him, bending over and lubing themselves up - and that devil McBush just fucks them. The bastard.

Yeah, that's sad. I'm sure you were planning on voting McCain up until just a few days ago, too.

Governor Palin is anti-choice, anti-gay marriage and under investigation in her state of Alaska.  I also have to question why Senator McCain would pick a VP who he has met only twice and who never has been through the political boiler room that is a national election.

I am on several mailing lists where politics are discussed and none of these women are fooled by this tactic.  They are more concerned with the issues of reproductive health, education, health care and energy policy which effect their everyday lives.

McCain Turns Hard Right, Goes All-In With "Pro-Life" Sarah Palin as Veep

Scott Swenson on August 29, 2008 - 5:21pm
"Palin is opposed to gay marriage but sympathetic to concerns about discrimination because of her own gay and lesbian friends. She just doesn't believe those friends should be allowed the same rights associated with marriage as she and her husband enjoy. She is pro-gun, common in the West, and a member of Feminists for Life, making her a hero for far-right social conservatives.

Palin is under investigation as to whether she abused her power in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. The legislative council approved $100,000 for the investigation that will find out whether Palin was angry at Monegan for not firing an Alaska State Trooper who went through a messy divorce with Palin's sister."

As Tee said, absolutely. Repubs freak me out with their willingness to abdicate reason and responsibility to some invisible supernatural alien. Must be that "true believer" thing that also makes them think the Busheviks were the messiah and his 12 apostles.

Repubs who think there will be mass defections of Hillarians to McPOW just because he picked a woman are trippin'.

How is announcing your vp on the opening day of your parties convention, trashing the other guy?

NumberSix -> RE: Hillary voters seem pleased with Palin pick (8/29/2008 4:44:53 PM)

a campaign press release and the man are two different things.

So an old and tortured man who will say anything to get them to stop (as he has admitted) picks some fresh daisy without any experience who has a damn good chance of having to take over, in his case; that is not a flip flop, merely a modification of previous position?

LOL, you lose, take off your pants, try again, game over.

Chickpea - I thank thishereboy for putting me on the map yet again, but she is wrong (but she's my number one fan [:)]). I am, in fact, one of these pesky europeans, just an expatriate living in the US :-) .

PS: back to the original post - the more I think about it, the more I think that McCain deliberately chose an improbable running mate in order to shoot himself in the foot. There's no other explanation, and Chickpea is correct: arguing over the 'experience' thing only plays in the hands of the Republicans, who want to cause mayhem over undecided voters. They're running around like ants right now, but they know full well it's pretty much fucked for them. Simply, they can't loose face and admit defeat, so they harp on about how great McCain's choice is.

Racquelle -> RE: Hillary voters seem pleased with Palin pick (8/29/2008 5:02:27 PM)

I knew how I would vote in this election 20 years ago.  But I am pleased that we will either have a black man or a woman in the white house, no matter how the election goes.  It seems important as a symbol of cultural evolution.  None of the candidates are all that I would want them to be.  Those who convinced McCain to choose a woman as a running mate are rather shrewd in my opinion.  It remains to be seen if who we elect will do a good job.  I am not holding out much hope, either way.  I am half convinced we don't want good elected officials.

I see we have a reading comprehension issue here.

I liked McCain in 2000. But things have changed, and I can't support him now.

I will vote for Obama.

Yeah, i'm your biggest fan on here!!!!!!!!!!  woooooooooot!

I TOTALLY agree with you regarding the ReBARFicans.

It's like a big unspoken joke amongst the Republicans that they know they're full of shit, yet they keep vomitting out shit.

LMAO?...make that two!  [sm=LMAO.gif][sm=LMAO.gif]

racquelle:  yep, whatever the outcome, the White House will be on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition early next year.  Hope Sarah Palin isn't a Bait-and-Switch, use her while she's good for them and then ditch her when the controversies she carries forces her to give up her bid (cough) for VP.  I hate those retarded republicans!

LotusSong -> RE: Hillary voters seem pleased with Palin pick (8/29/2008 5:41:10 PM)

Women know pandering when they see it.  Hillary refused to be content with the "back of the bus".  His choice was predictable and a desperate ploy for votes.  Women aren't  THAT stupid.  All he has done it underscore the attitude that women are good for "second place".

Celene -> RE: Hillary voters seem pleased with Palin pick (8/29/2008 5:56:44 PM)

She was picked for HER age, looks, for being the mother of five, the daughter of educators, her "conservative politics" and  "pro-life" stance.... I do not think she can show us the experience and background that Hillary has.
But in politics, personal spin is every bit as important as your background and experience.

I saw the face that McCain picked and heard the words that Obama said...
It will be the airbrush vs. the soundbyte.

Stop, Look, and LISTEN! Then by all means, vote your conscience - should you have one.

McCain may have heard wrong. [sm=mrpuffy.gif] Veep rhymes with sheep.
He seems to be hoping all women are going to flock to this choice.

The second place slot in this case means one has their foot in the door for number one.

Spit on it, call it sour grapes,.. whatever. It's one hell of an opportunity for her.

Bullshit.  Open your eyes.   He' so old.. he'll croak in office and she'll be left with a mess she'll have no clue what to do with.  The only good thing would be that it would show the continued incompetence of the repugnican party.  I'm quite happy he made the choice.  It shows just what an old fool he is :)   (in short.. it's not gonna work!  Waaaaaaaaaaay to transparent a ploy not to be an insult to the intelligence of any thinking person).

Aynne88 -> RE: Hillary voters seem pleased with Palin pick (8/29/2008 7:07:17 PM)

And here is an excerpt from a Nov. 5, 2006 Anchorage Daily News article (via LEXIS):

A significant part of Palin's base of support lies among social and Christian conservatives. Her positions on social issues emerged slowly during the campaign: on abortion (should be banned for anything other than saving the life of the mother), stem cell research (opposed), physician-assisted suicide (opposed), creationism (should be discussed in schools), state health benefits for same-sex partners (opposed, and supports a constitutional amendment to bar them).

She has made definitive statements that Creationism should be taught in schools, along with Evolution.

I will listen to her views and answers respectfully. But I do want to hear them. Especially as we have already had a wrecking crew of Evangelical Christians 'parked' in the Dept. of Justice for the last eight years, doing 'God's work.'

What kind of an idiot  Hillary supporter would switch parties to vote for this woman that is a pro-life pro-gun evangelical? The similarites are none, and if women are so easily swayed by such a shameless tactic I will be very surprised.  They are polar opposites. What would be the reason then? The vagina vote?[8|]

Shameless propaganda [:'(]. I bet that the number of disgruntled Clinton voters who will defect to the other side aren't nearly as numerous as they're said to be. It wouldn't surprise me if most of it was a rumour propagated by a think thank/PR machine with a shop just around the corner from the White House paid by the republican party.

lonelyblueboi -> RE: Hillary voters seem pleased with Palin pick (8/29/2008 7:30:22 PM)

I do believe that McCain picked Palin over the variety of other veep candidates simply because she is a woman. On every other aspect, she is on par with or below the others in terms of experience. I truly hope the Hillary supporters don't fall for this manipulative ploy to get their votes. I voted for Obama in the primary simply because I thought his inexperience was a good thing, and would bring a fresh perspective to DC. But overall, I wouldn't have cared if Hillary had won. As far as I'm concerned, either one would be far better than Insane McCain. Republicans are driving our country into the ground and back to the 1800's! States' rights my A$$! It is one country, and all people deserve equal rights! I don't care if they don't want to call it "gay marriage". It will work just fine if the word marriage is dropped from legal terminology altogether and all unions, be it heterosexual or homosexual, were referred to as domestic partnerships! Let the bible thumpers keep their "precious" word. Just keep church and state separate like they were intended to be and are supposed to be! I'm voting for Obama/Biden. I know they aren't perfect, but at least they are living in the 21st Century and respect equality!

Vendaval -> RE: Hillary voters seem pleased with Palin pick (8/29/2008 7:33:16 PM)

Yes, it is a desperate move designed to appeal to Senator Clinton's female supporters.  There were three other Repulican women being discussed as potential VPs; Condolezza Rice, Kay Bailey Hutchinson or Carly Fiorina.
