JohnWarren -> Suggestions for post-2000 timeline (8/31/2008 4:09:09 PM)

I'm doing a timeline of BDSM events. The problem is I'm often too close to the things that go on to evaluate how important they are.

I'm just asking this group "What events involving BDSM after 2000 do you consider significant?"

Was the Playhouse invasion in 99 or 00?  Also Paddleboro, the Nitke case, Jovanovic (sp?)

John,

I have no specific suggestions for events but an idea
that might prove helpful.

Use the search feature here and limit it to the "In the News" forum.

Then by using the before choice and keywords such as "court",
"arrest", "lawsuit", "police", and/or other positive ones such as
"event", "fair", etc.  I'll bet there is a lot of info you can pull up
from those old posts.

Lawrence v. Texas (2003) struck down sodomy laws in Texas.

i do not think that time is linear post 2000....in the same way that it could be thought of prior to 'The Cloud'....cyber term.
Thus synchronicity of events makes a linear time line irrelevant. You come near to stating this as 'too close.'
All events are significant, particularly the private moments within a dynamic. Making a so-called significant time line of public events gives  and sustains the importance of those events and creates a fundamentalist hierarchy in my opinion. (Thus the irony of the title Pulp Fiction).
Ask the Cloud not the Crowd. Unless you have a need to be the Editor of course, which is entirely different in my opinion.Yet more ideological imperialism?

Nitke was post 2000.  A perfect example of what I was going for.  I was involved so naturally it faded into the background

2000 and just before it was a busy time, Paddleboro, Playhouse, and Club X

How  wide a net are you casting, John?

The off again on again gay marraiges and all that too, or simply flat out kink-o-rama?

Ron

Pretty narrowly BDSM,,, After all, it's only going to be one class out of a general intro course

[laughing] Damn, that's right.  Another one I was too close to.  It's easy to remember the stuff I read about like San Diego Six but something goes blank when I was actually involved.
