Realizing that Obama is running on a platform of "change", is thus promising a considerably different Presidency than the Bush Administration, and thus I have heard a litany of what Bush has done wrong, I am curious if any among the Democrats can acknowledge anything George W. Bush did that they liked?

Will the Democrats acknowledge any Bush Administration successes?

Aiding  HIV victims in the 3rd world with life saving drugs. His programs have saved countless lives.

Knocked the Taliban out of power, though they were never quite finished that job.

He kept gay people from getting married

But all in all,the worst president in American history.

Yikes.  I can't think of a whole bunch that I liked that he did.

The AIDS work in Africa, already mentioned, was good.

I liked the no-call list....

Yeah.  That's pretty much all I can think of that I liked about our government the last 8 years.  What I liked least, perhaps, was his very large contribution to the hyper-partisanship currently hurting our country.  I see it on these boards all time time:  6-7 stories blown out of proportion just because you don't like the party the person belongs to.  It happens on both sides, but it's clearly much more prevalent on the right.

On the other hand, that'd be a fun thread:  What do  you want to see changed from the way the country has been run the last 8 years.

Was the no call list his thing?

lol Who knew?

Bravo George.

Add that to my list.

Wow,talk about a hard assignment.....

I know there`s a bunch of rich people and government contractors who`re quite happy with George.

Do they count?

Africa

No call list. (which seems pretty toothless... the number of crap calls I'm getting hasn't gone down, but it was a good attempt.)

Increased Federal higher education grants (actually started by Clinton, but at least he didn't kill it.)

Shifting away from his planned obscenity and porn witch hunt, after Sept 11. (Although Ashcroft wanted to go through with it.)

Signing the G.I. bill... (although he opposed it, and then took credit for it when the passage was found to be veto proof.)

Faint praise, indeed.

Yup,the new GI bill.I recall a veto threat and him not supporting that bill, but he did sign it.

Kudos.Add that to my list.

I know that McBush was also against that very worthy bill.

I liked Bill Clinton`s point at the DNC convo, about how from 2000 to 2006,the republicans for the 1st time had full control of government and for the 1st time, were able to implement their extreme agenda.

And they did.

And now we see how it worked out.The grand experiment was a grand failure.

Yes, you may recall that Bush was fast tracking a ton of ultra-conservative legislation in his early months. Then, Jeffers grew a spine, and decided to put a stop to it and switched to independant, cutting the majority. (I still send his office a "thank you" e-card at Xmas) It was the legislative equivilent to "tank man" in China stopping the column from mowing down the students in the square.

The Bushes gave Queen Elizabeth a warm, elegant welcome, and the President even donned white tie.

I thought that was quite nice.

Novice, you're too kind. My memory of the event doesn't put George in such a flattering light :-) : what a clown he is . Endearing, perhaps, but obviously unqualified as far as protocole is concerned  .

I'm not sure what clord's trying to achieve with this thread: I thought Bush had nothing to do with current events, since he was on his way out? It's hard to keep up with the revisionism, these days.

I've been pretty thankful for the tax cuts I recieved and for the economic stimulus check I got.  (real answer)

I am also proud of all the gardening he did down there in Texas.  That place needed some weeding done and some brush cleared.  I am so proud that he found time to do it while he was supposed to be running this country.  Maybe next he'll send some people to help me clear some more pasture on my place.  (the silly answer some have come to expect from me)
