Witch Hazel (sometimes spelled Wych) (Hamamelis mollis) extract (available as a liquid or in creams) is useful, and I've yet to find anything to beat Aloe vera (sometimes called medicinal aloe) cream or gel. Witch hazel can be slightly drying but it's excellent at controlling infection*, Aloe vera is much more emollient and moisturising and also has very good antiseptic* properties. *i.e. can prevent wounds becoming infected and can control minor infections. I'm not advocating their use instead of a recognised antiseptic, and the usual warnings about using common sense still apply. By the way, there's very strong anecdotal evidence to suggest that people who eat a lot of marmite (British yeast extract spread similar to vegemite but much stronger flavoured and tastier) are less attractive to midges, mosquitos and other biting insects. Hope this is helpful Gwyddno
