ORIGINAL: velvetears i just see it as disrespectful, especially seeing he works there, kinda tacky i think. There are many ways of saving money when getting married, this isn't one way i would employ. Calla what your daughter is doing is making a statement about her "lifestyle" - that's different in my eyes. What color is she wearing for her dress? Black i presume? Churches aren't the only option for getting married, but they are places many go when people celebrate life transitions - births, weddings, deaths, etc. Funeral homes aren't generally associated with marriage ceremonies and celebrating, their sole function is preparing the dead and displaying them in a room for one to three days, depending on how many the person wants or can afford. Why not have wakes in favorite restaurants, or schools because it means something to us? How chaotic it would be if everyone did this. i suppose i am just a traditional sort of gal. Ummm... people -do- have wakes at favorite restaurants, pubs, etc. Just as an example is the Irish or Sicilian wake -- some are held at home, but most of the Irish wakes I've been to have been held at a local pub... about 75% of them had the "corpse of honor" present for the occasion. All the Sicilian wakes I've been to have had the deceased laid-out on site, and have traditionally been held in the father's home or place of business (or, if not the father, the oldest living brother's), and family, customers, and business partners are all invited to eat and drink with the family on 'common ground'. Just saying... CFB
