bipolarber -> The first week of Sarah (9/3/2008 11:45:11 AM)

Tomorrow marks the first week anniversary of Sarah Palin being picked for the VP slot... (Thursday being the day she was "vetted" by the McCain people, and John McCain actually met her for longer than ten minutes.) What have we found out about her so far?

She was for the "bridge to nowhere" before she was against it.
She tried to ban books at her local library.
She fired a guy for not firing her ex brother in law, after the divorice.
She made some questionable decisions regarding her delivery.
Her "abstinence only" education of her own daughter was somewhat lacking.
She believes in God, and that he talks to her on a regular basis.

It seems to me that John McCain's offering the VP slot to essentially an "online date", is really looking like a poor decision on his part.

It would be nice to see such thorough media investigations of both Obama and Biden.

Or just some reporting of what is already known...

Come on Sanity, you know if there was something, the Republican media would have found it by now. They tried their hardest to make things stick like questioning wheter Obama was American enough. Remeber those photos of Obama in traditional African clothes along with commentary that tried to make fun of him?

Just a quick glance at the current feeding frenzy centered around Governor Palin's personal life is all one needs in order to see the reality regarding the political orientation of the majority of the American "news" media. Were it a Republican "news" media as you try to claim then the current reality would be turned upside down.

Give me a fucking break.  Obama has been in front of the press for 18 months with this very very long election process.

The press has looked into everything, the church, the land, the votes, the American people have had 18 months to learn about him and have the media search for things in the closet.

As for the soon to be Grandmother, the press has had less than a week and the American people even less,

McCain needed to ignite a fire in his base because he was losing them.  He did that, but the rest of the country is now questioning his procedure for picking her

Oh, yeah, I forgot:

Wants creationisim in all science classrooms.
Wants to ban abortion across the board... no exceptions.
Gun nut... lifetime NRA mamber.
"hates" earmarks, but as governor of Alaska hired lobbiests to get $23 million dollars worth of them in her first year.
Connected to Stevens, who was her "mentor"... right up until the Feds moved on him for corruption.

Sarah Palin is a big problem for the democrats. Why all of the attention and family matters being brought up..One reason..They are plenty worried about McCains pick. She is what the Republicans needed to fire up this party..

Vendaval -> RE: The first week of Sarah (9/3/2008 1:14:47 PM)

I would like to point out that the Democratic Mondale-Ferraro ticket was in 1984, 24 years ago.  So the Republican party has waited an entire generation to propose a woman for VP.

servantforuse -> RE: The first week of Sarah (9/3/2008 1:22:34 PM)

Women of both parties are outraged by the treatment Sarah Palin is getting by the media in this election. It has backfired on them. Even pro choice Hillary supporters are now coming to her defence.

Please, I have said it before I will repeat it again for those that missed it.IMO the republican talking heads who have been tasked with defending this pick would love to send McCain hunting with Cheney. The Democrats got an early Christmas present with this McCain screw up.
BTW running for high office in this country means attention and that includes familt matters.Where was all this indignation from the right when threads concerning Obama's half brother were running here .The hypocricy of bitching about the media is laughable...maybe some media outlets could start reaching out to shut-ins affiliated with Palin's church...or would that be too much?

Huffington makes it clear that that's a comedy item Thadius, it would be churlish to suggest otherwise.

Actually, they have the video of two republican worthies revealing their true feelings about this selection.  Equip yourself for that watercooler moment: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/03/peggy-noonan-mike-murphy_n_123647.html

So here's my question: with all the real fodder on S. Pallin - Pregnancies! DUIs! Dead moose! Her energy policy! Her lack of international experience! (listed in order of importance, obviously) - why bother with badly Photoshopped pictures? Yes she's a member of the NRA. Lifetime, even. And yes she probably still looks pretty good in a bikini. Are we going to have to endure this crap all the way until the election? Please, somebody, show me another pic of Bristol's "tummy."

Pretty much sums up the context I was referring to them in.

Talk about burying the lead!

Have you clicked the link I posted?

I wonder why she is an ex advisor...

Just sayin.

DarkSteven -> RE: The first week of Sarah (9/3/2008 5:00:13 PM)

For the GOP, there are pluses and minuses.

The biggest plus is that she woke up the GOP.  They were dozing along, stuck with McCain, and the campaign was based on knocking Obama rather than boosting McCain.  Palin's energized the party - she's a lot more exciting than McCain.

Another plus is that she seems at first glance to epitomize the small town values that appeal to many voters, especially the GOP.  Huntin', fishin', hockey.  Five kids.

I hate to say this, but looks DO matter, and she's got them.

The biggest minuses are reflections on McCain.  She's a GOP rock star with a thin resume.  While the Dems cannot attack her for that, they can attack McCain for slamming Obama for months on that, and then selecting a running mate with the exact same qualities.  Grounds to imply that he's less than honest or else doesn't understand what he's doing.

Also, it appears that her vetting was done hastily.  Obama's style is methodical and effective.  McCain cannot afford to appear like he's not in complete control.  Fair or not, his age is the 400 poiund elephant in the room and signs of poor judgment will hurt him more than Obama.

The lack of a positive is that she obviously was picked partly to attract the PUMAs angry that Hillary wasn't the nominee or VP pick.  But everything I've read indicates that the PUMAs aren't biting.
