"Hundreds protest poverty, homelessness as GOP meet"By MARTIGA LOHN and JON KRAWCZYNSKI, Associated Press Writers
Tuesday, September 2, 2008

"Authorities said 130 of the 286 people arrested Monday faced possible felony charges. At least four journalists were among those arrested: Associated Press photographer Matt Rourke, Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman and two of her producers. The four were later released, but only Goodman was cited for a misdemeanor and issued a court date, at which time she could be charged with a crime.

Rourke was covering Monday's protest when he was swept up by police moving in on a group of protesters. Goodman was arrested as she asked police in riot gear about the status of producers Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar.

All three recounted their experience on Goodman's show Tuesday. A video of her arrest, aired on the program and posted on YouTube, shows her begging police not to arrest her before she was taken away in handcuffs."

Secret Service and National Guard is now crawling all over St. Paul in the wake of that discovery that anarchist group from the internet was planning to kidnap delegates and commit acts of arson. One of the leaders of the group was found to have materials to build molotov cocktails.

Keep in mind these are not simply anti-war protestes. These are anarchists who hate Republicans, Democrats, and everyone in between. The only thing they support is chaos.

Hey those 4 reporters can report on their own arrest, that is when they get out of jail.

When politicians want to evade pertinent questions they call protesters anarchists (which they aren't) and get away without having to answer those questions being put to them. The protests were about poverty and homelessness, both of which exist in America and both should be being addressed by politicians but they aren't. When people have nothing to lose and are not being listened to and see abundant wealth around them, violence invariably happens, its almost a law of human nature. Most violence plays out in the inner cities but this apparently is organized which means the perpetrators aren't anarchists at all.

Well, as I mentioned on another thread, it seems as though the RNC is set up to crush any dissent hunder their jackbooted heels.

Hummm... maybe it's just me. I've beed sitting at home with a bug, and watching the convention coverage, and also the movie "V for Vendetta"... and finding errie similarities...

here it is.  The LA times reported that reporter being charged as a terrorst.  which means longer prison sentence.

Quick Note cyber..if you have gasoline, a glass bottle and rags you have the makings of a Molotov. I live in Florida where I mow lawns, have a generator in case of power interrupts, therefore I have gas stored. Since I also have clothing and spaghetti sauce, as well as nails in jars in the garage and rags for cleanups, I could be said to have the makings of a Molotov, occasionally even in my car if I have to go get more gas and groceries.

When they want police et. al. can make a case for just about anything out of everyday normal items. My son was once stopped and detained though not arrested for having burglars tools on him as he walked down the street late at night. The fact that he was doing a computer upgrade and repair for a friend and that the tool kits he had was a standard computer repair kit including chip puller, meant nothing to this officer, until it had been proven that he was where he stated he was until he stated he was there, and that there were no burglaries in the area that evening.

Not saying it wasn't what they said it was..and the danger wasn't real, just saying things are not always as they seem or are reported.

Should have sent them to Gitmo.  I hate the press.  They are just propaganda outlets for people with agendas, both left and right.

Vendaval -> RE: Reporters arrested during protests (9/19/2008 6:25:42 PM)

Thank you for posting the update, hunk boy.  There needs to be an investigation into how these protests and reporters were handled.

cyberdude611 -> RE: Reporters arrested during protests (9/19/2008 6:30:27 PM)

Funny how they are protesting the GOP for homeless and poverty when the cities with the most homeless and poverty are run by Democrats.

Look at Detroit. That city has been run by Democrats for decades and it is dying.

pahunkboy -> RE: Reporters arrested during protests (9/20/2008 5:38:01 AM)

Amy Goodman is  NOT a talking head.

Can you handle 1 hour a day of non-corporate news?

http://www.democracynow.org/     you can see it here.  She has been around -- since 1989.   If all reporters were this detailed- the world would be a better place.  That is - if you believe the pen is mightier then the sword.
