I was sitting here reading through the threads and a question popped in my head, so I figured I would throw it out there.  What makes you truly happy?  I mean gut-level-life-is-wonderful happy.  For me, it is having friends who love me unconditionally, family I love dearly, a job i love, and the feeling of being comfortable with ME, faults and all.  Oh yeah, and a steady supply of Jelly Bellys - can't live without those

I make me happy. Real and true happiness comes from within, not from external people or things. Those things are enhancements but not the core of happiness.

Good company, soothing background music, a beautiful sunset. Also seeing those that I love smile.

mistoferin, I agree....happiness is definitely an inside job.

While it is certainly true that happiness is largely a decision within the person....external influences (either positive or negative) can make a big impact!

I really love to cook for people and serving friends whom I love a good meal really works to bring my happiness factor up!

I also love being -comfortable- with someone.  The sort of comfort where you don't even need to be doing the same thing, but just -being- together..and there is a sort of a subtext going on all the time and you both hear it.  THAT makes me happy.

What mistoferin has said.. it comes from within.. I just look for the positives around me. It's a sort of stable rrlationship, the happiness within me and the positives around me.

I agree with OttersSwim.  Cooking makes me happy.  Sad but true housework also makes me happy (except dishes). Making sure it smells like downy and fresh baked cookies.

Making a comfortable place where family and friends can come together and enjoy.

Oh and watching my puppy sleep and listening to his little "woof woof" while he dreams.

edited because a real dog goes woof woof

coming home to my Sir and seeing the light in his eyes when he sees me

watching the hummingbirds outside the patio door

listening to my kids laugh and talk about whats going on in their lives - and thanking goddess that i don't have to raise them any more hehe

Hearing the bird chorus when i get home - it may be cupboard love, but they are happy to see me.

a nice cup of tea, sitting in my chair and watching the squirrels eat the left over bird foodle

quilting, knitting and reading

clean sheet on the bed

and a host of other really simple things - it doesn't take much to make me happy.

Taking care of the ones I love, being loved in return, the fact I can be myself and not have to worry he wont love me and just laying in his arms and listening to him breathe.

what makes me happy....lots of things....

Master of course...be it talking or emailing with him to spending time in person together doing anything or nothing at all

A beautiful sunny day
meditating
being content
laughing with friends
spending a good day with my daughter
walking in the rain
enjoying a good book or movie
reflection
praying in a sacred space
volunteering and knowing my work is helping others

This list could go on forever...

Good grades - really really good grades (because the accomplishment and the work behind those grades gets me off), Tab, napping, and the occasional bit of dark chocolate. And sometimes silence.

Without even readin anything but the OPs' question... i make myself happy, anyone or anything adds to what is already in place..... this way it asures that it will always be there even after anyone or anything leaves...too bad it does not ensure better grammer or spelling!!

right now, at the moment, my horse is making me laugh so much.

he is such a coward, so im trying to build up his confidence by introducing him to wierd and wonderful things.  the other day i bought a couple of those pom pom things cheer leaders waggle about.  the look on his face when i produced them was just hysterical.  if his jaw could have dropped it would have done.  im sure he thinks im bonkers.  but he's learning to take it all in his stride and his trust in me always overcomes his fear eventually and that feels so incredible and special.

not sure how many pom poms we'll encounter out on our rides, but if something bright pink and fluffy comes bounding up to us we will definitely be ready for it!

Sweet words spoken in the wee hours of the morning.
The smell and taste of a  loved one's skin.
Good food
A busy day at work
As Darcyandthedark's sig line suggests when you are with someone you love.."looking forward in the same direction"
And the knowledge that i know who i am whether at times that means I'm good or bad. I don't fool myself.

Having my 25 yr old son say he still needs me made me terribly happy this week.  He has always been so strong about not wanting me around. To have him say he wants me in his life just made my whole week.  He may be going  to Iraq in a few months, has been to Afghanastian for 3 years now.  He is  an MP was searching places for taliban this past tour.  I was scared shitless for 18 months.   May GOD have mercy on Bush if something happens to my son i sure won't.  So to hear him say that to me made it very special to me.

Without a doubt, its having friends around me who make it known they want to be around me. It is more than just Fox, too. Angel and Silk, my vanilla friends... I am never quite as happy as when I have almost no time to myself :)

That and having pictures of my friends and family surrounding me. There are so many happy memories in photos, which is why I have such a great love for them.
