Actually the majority of clothing and jewelry worn by the Hollywood debs is LOANED by the designers so that it is seen and the wealthy buy them. Those that actually purchase the clothing tend to donate them to charity afterwards for the tax write offs. here are several shops in Hollywood where you can buy the clothing seen worn by stars in Movies and at the awards.

I was wondering if someone was going to bring that up. Good point.

That is what Vanity Fair editors estimate was the value of what Cindy McCain was wearing on Monday alone.

What do you think of this?

personally...i could not care less

Cindy McCain
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000

That dress was a crime. The only reason it cost so much was someone had to get into a time machine and steal it from someone living in the 80's.

'80's  - i would have thought the '50's.  I swear i saw similar dresses on the Dick van Dike show, and Leave It To Beaver.     and i thought she looked great in it. Loved the colour too.

Or when a democrat gets a 500 dollar haircut, it becomes the defining moment of his campaign, used to paint him as an "elitist."

New, Clinton backed up dozens of flights at LAX when he got that haircut.
I don't care about Cindy McCain's clothing or it's cost, if she can afford it that's her business how much she chooses to spend on clothing and jewelry not some shallow magazine's.
I just spent $44,000 on a new Lincoln MKS on wednesday but I can afford it.
Some people spend $100,000 on a new Mercedes Benz.
But, they're probably lobbyists who represent foreign countries and get them billions of Taxpayer dollars in "foreign aid."

christine1 -> RE: So what do you think of the $313,100? (9/6/2008 9:51:45 AM)

who the hell cares what anyone is wearing?  i don't give a rats ass about what a haircut or a dress costs on either side of the political pond.  i want to hear what they stand for and not some rant against their running mates.  yeah, i know i'm asking the impossible so i'll just stop there.

$313,100?

There are other things, more fun things I can think of to spend $313,100 on, but that's just me.  I am sensible when it comes to spending and I think it's a huge waste to drop that sort of cash on jewelry and clothing.  It's her money, and I don't give a crap how she spends it.

I couldn't take my eyes off of her eyes and her face long enough to worry about her jewelry or her dress. I like the way she is so engaging when she speaks, and she's so pretty! I just kept thinking, "Well John McCain, you old fucking dog... I see what you've got here."

SHE was the only real jewel on that stage, so near as I am concerned!

Who cares? The problem is this is a wife of a wannabe president who has no clue how many houses they own and thinks he relates to the average American. But I do think she would look fairly good with nothing on but a diamond necklace and her nails painted black ... just for sh*ts and giggles

thishereboi -> RE: So what do you think of the $313,100? (10/27/2008 3:47:12 AM)

Why would I care how much her clothes cost?  Why do you?

Only someone with a very shallow interest in what is important in the world would even think about this...Cindy is worth over $100 million, she doesn't shop in good -will stores like Sarah Palin.  I seem to recall that Jackie Kennedy wore Dior originals...not off the rack dresses and everyone loved it, copied it, as they would a princess.
Do you think Pelosi shops personally in Target?  Sarah Palin was dressed by the RNC because the woman is on TV in millions of homes every day...if she wore a jersey saying "soccor mom" she would be attacked just as viciously by the broads in Georgetown, Manhattan, and the glamour girls in Beverly Hills.

Is that all the libs have left?  ..no pun intended... on the other hand..yep, pun intended..[:D]

We also know it's all on loan to them to promote a designer or jewler. (or maybe YOU didn't)

TNstepsout -> RE: So what do you think of the $313,100? (10/27/2008 5:26:19 AM)

I know Joe the Plumbers wife can't afford a $310k outfit and now that Obama's going to win and Joe won't be able to buy his plumbing company because of all those extra taxes, his poor wife will have to look like crap in a lousy $200 dress. Screw the middle class!

BlackPhx -> RE: So what do you think of the $313,100? (10/27/2008 7:11:54 AM)

She isn't doing it off the contributions of middle America. It's her money inherited and earned..and more power to her. As long as she pays her fair share of taxes I could care less.

puella -> RE: So what do you think of the $313,100? (10/27/2008 7:20:13 AM)

Who really cares?  It was legitimately bought with her money, and means nothing, ultimately.

If you have a beef that she is rich, that is another matter...but again, who cares?

Though I fundamentally do not agree with much of her ideology and the things she has (especially of late) done and said, the fact of the matter is that Cindy McCain has done a lot of very good charitable work in her life, and with her money.  Many rich people cannot claim the same.

TNstepsout -> RE: So what do you think of the $313,100? (10/27/2008 4:57:31 PM)

Well I will tell you honestly what it means to me. It means that McCain and his wife have no concept whatsoever of what life is like for middle class or the poor of this country. Since he has spent quite a bit of time claiming to be THE voice of the average Joe Sixpack, Joe the Plumber or anyone named Joe he should SHOW that he understands and relates to the middle class, not just SAY it.  It's obvious to me that he doesn't have a clue what life is like for most people, so when he claims to have our best interests at heart it just sounds phony and slimy, especially when he's saying that and his wife is wearing an outfit that costs twice as much as most peoples homes. I don't care if rich people have nice things, but I don't want someone in a 310k dress telling me they understand what it's like to have to choose between the mortgage and medical care.

puella -> RE: So what do you think of the $313,100? (10/27/2008 5:02:00 PM)

Well, I sure would agree that the 'we are the common folk' is ridiculous.  More ridiculous is trying to equate Obama with some sort of effete elitist, but that's a whole other kettle of fish.

I think she spent more than $313,099.00 for her outfits.

And a good cigar ain't cheap.
