ORIGINAL: Aneirin I never liked soap operas and this to me is becoming one, a blow by blow account of everything and the analysis beyond. A thought has just occurred, this is akin to a sports commentator commenting on a sports game, has anyone ever actually listened to the drivel they spout when a game is going on. I can deal with facts, but not the nit picking and analysis of speeches made after they have occurred. But whoever gets into power, and the changes they promise, remember words are just words until action is taken and once a person is in power, it is too late. Changes we all need, but I wonder how watered down those promises will be once the golden seat is attained. The president might in theory be the most powerful person in America, but is he really, is he so brave as to cause change and upset the status quo. Your last sentence tells it all. Being a President with strong core beliefs and the passion and strength to make the tough decisions necessary to "upset the status quo" is EXACTLY what seperates the great ones from the pedestrian. Historically, America has been able to find those leaders when the need was great. This election calls once more for this type of strength in our leader. That is the call to conscience we all face when we close the curtain and vote. You are right, however, we don't know for sure until years later...and in some cases like Harry Truman, for example, his more than capable ability as President was not recognized for thirty years.
