This is what happens in LA when high-class properties are abandoned by owners...

Yeah, I would let them move into my little bit of a backyard anytime.  [:D]

Only in LA would they get sleek, gorgeous bobcats.

Here in Cleveland we get skunks, LOL.

One of my brothers and his wife at the time brought a gorgeous cat to California that they first had in Oregon.  He was a black Persian crossed with a bobcat or lynx.  He was an absolutely gorgeous animal and rather shy.  His extra long ear tufts and the fur between his paw pads was very distinctive.

I have seen these smaller African felines at a zoo, they are quite beautiful.

impishlilhellcat -> RE: There goes the neighborhood (9/7/2008 6:38:43 PM)

Bobcats are pretty prevalent in upper michigan and yes they are gorgeous animals.

Anarrus -> RE: There goes the neighborhood (9/7/2008 6:56:42 PM)

If you've ever heard one on the prowl at night, if you didn't know what it was it'd scare the hell outta you. A very freaky sound. They do not "meow" like a regular kitty.

Termyn8or -> RE: There goes the neighborhood (9/7/2008 7:03:24 PM)

So they let the bobcats stay and threw the humans out.

Hmmmmm, now that I think about it, that's cool.

Actually I wouldn't mind meeting a bobcat, it wouldn't have to be domesticated, just socialized enough with humans not to tear me up. I could probably socialize them with a can of tuna, but for them suckers it would have to be a large can of tuna.

I used to have a coyote that we raised from damn near birth that got abandoned.  He interacted great with the all the dogs we had.

There are also a big cat sancurary, several miles from us. Used volunteer even if it was to just clean muck up. I was kept pretty busy with all that life stuff, like raising kids, working, raising various smaller exotics. Plus there was the worthless ex who thought it was beneath him to work for any one else. So sadly I didnt get to do it on a regular basis.   It was definetly very private and no a show and go kinda place.

Touching a big cat is as awesome as it comes if your a cat lover.

Vendaval -> RE: There goes the neighborhood (9/7/2008 9:18:16 PM)

I hear you, Savage Faerie.  We had a school field trip to Marine World Africa USA and I was all attention during the science show.  The best part was being able to touch the puma and the cheetah!  They were both older cats and very used to being around people. The puma's tongue was all scratchy just like a domestic cat.  The instructor told us that the roughness is for licking the last of the meat off the bones of their prey.

I would say that aside from lawncare (irrelevant since it's a walled compound), the cats are most likely an improvement over the former owners.

xXLithiumXx -> RE: There goes the neighborhood (9/8/2008 6:31:36 AM)

Thats pretty cool.

I had a friend in Minesota whos mother thought she was feeding wild cats, when the mom went to work over seas my friend went out to feed them only to find that they were skunks. Lol.

In my home town we had bob cats, awesome little guys, until you forgot to take your trash out when you were supposed to, or if your dogs went too far from the house.

But these guys look like they are just chillin out, kickin it with the hommies.
