Where did you go, Joe? Lost in all the Palin celebrity is Joe Biden. Talk about a candidate who has lost his voice -- the guy who was hired primarily to be one of the McCain attack dogs seems to have been muted. Biden is trying to find his voice and because every question he gets is about Palin, he doesn't seem prepared to handle his McCain duties. Yesterday on Meet the Press, he had to spend way too much time talking about Palin, and that for now is time wasted for the Obama campaign.

What interviews has Biden given?  Oh and just one more easy question, how many public appearances did Biden have between his announcement and post convention?  I seem to remember him being put on a shelf for a little bit.

Honestly... I don't recall.  How's that for being a memorable candidate?  I figure I'm just like a lot of people who don't consider what Biden does or says as being all that important.  [;)]

60 minutes, Meet the Press, People Magazine, Charlottesville Podcasting Network, TPM ... and the synopsis of Robert Draper "Joe Biden can't shut up". ::chuckles:: I don't remember Biden ever being put on a shelf. If he were, I'm sure he'd be doing this ... [sm=tantrum.gif]

To answer the second question - going through his stump trail .. a lot.

From the moment they did the announcement until after the convention, Biden was hidden away.  He wasn't set free until the middle of last week.  I am sure we will see the same sort of thing with the other VP pick.

The People "interview" was on the day of the announcement.  Know what I mean?  This is typical handling of the vp candidates.  The argument could be made that Obama rarely took questions from the press, until recently.

Palin is scheduled to sit down with ABC and Charles Gibson this week for an interview.

I suspect that Palin will be off the trail after today for a couple of days, to go spend some time with her son before his deployment.

How is this relevant again?

How about in reference to the statement that I replied to?  How are your sith remarks relevant?

I'm reassured: for a moment there, I thought you were serious.

The Democratic party is a joke. The only ones who have proven they can beat Republicans at this game are the Clintons and the Democratic voters threw them overboard and now we are stuck with this guy with a funny name and a cheap suit that talks good. Good luck getting him elected.

Millions and millions of your fellow Americans have voted for that joke. As for Obama, I thought he sucked at public speaking? Get it together, guys: mind the gap.

He does well with a teleprompter, when it comes to something not on a teleprompter... well that is a different story.

SilverMark -> RE: USA Today poll: McCain/Palin have 10-point lead (9/8/2008 11:18:21 AM)

From strictly a political strategy stand point why would McCain allow Palin to speak aside from the stump speech?....In the case of most V.P. candidates they aren't relevant, in her case she can only damage her cause if she mis speaks....If I were running the campaign I would keep her hidden and then only appear on friendly interview shows....Then dare anyone to say she hadn't spoken. Remember we once elected that tower of intellect, Dan Quayle to the Vice-presidency...He could barely speek without instruction...Not saying she is Dan Quayle but, if I were McCain, I wouldn't want to find out.

-fast reply-

Another we against them thread. Both sides attempting to deface the others candidates and neither sure what they should actually be supporting in their own, apart from party affiliation.

Come on people the whole mess on both sides wreaks of illusion and misdirection.

Us against them...

Us against them...

Us against them...

Well here's the facts...if you're not an American you're stuck with our choices; if you don't like it, who gives a shit.

If you are American start acting like it and stop blindly siding with an illusional party-themed ideoligy.

At this point in time not very many of you are worth the blood and sweat of your warriors. And if you think that comment was directed at you, it's your own guilt that harbors your contempt.

Damn near all of you are puppets and the reason I lost interest in debating the issues here.

Awww Bull, was the milk in your coffee a little curdled this morning? Perhaps you need a new heifer to cheer you up!

Thank you for knowing that I was teasing you in fun. You know I like your brand of being "a lil' stinker". A good sense of humour is a beautiful thing.

I knew what you were up to LaT.

And you know me, I love to inspire thought...original thought.

I hope all is well on your side of the corn patch...

LaTigresse -> RE: USA Today poll: McCain/Palin have 10-point lead (9/8/2008 11:44:25 AM)

Oui, and I love to think original thoughts. Unfortunately I tend to have way too much fun doing so....

Oh, as for the corn. I am beginning to see signs of fall here.

Didn't the DNC start just 2 or 3 days after the annoucement? There wasn't a whole lot of time there. Conventions are like the Oscars. You save the top category's for the end in order to build up anticipation. That's pretty typical actually. I wouldn't call that 'hiding' .. it's, as our own CL would say .. the nature of things. ::chuckles::

I agree with you on Obama about press questions .. but, in fairness, he's been stumping a lot and taking questions from the people. He's a grass roots kinda guy and I don't hold that against him.. but then I have a lot more faith in the people to ask the important questions which really matter to 'we the people' than I do the press who seem to like to speculate on how much someone spent on a haircut or a pair of shoes.

"Real change with a real woman," read one sign at a Wisconsin rally. "Hurricane Sarah leaves liberals spinning," cried another.

I always thought change and conservatism are a contradiction in terms.

No doubt she does have her fans amongst pro-life, moralist, no sex education, puritan conservatives but they aren't the only Americans that have the vote.

Yes and she also has fans amongst the pro-choice, non-moralist, pro-sex-ed, non-puritan conservatives.....I am so glad everyone gets the vote.

Well it does make sense to vote against ones beliefs.[sm=abducted.gif]

Well, when they offer someone who believes everything I do, then I will back them. Until then I will take the one who comes closest.

Thadius -> RE: USA Today poll: McCain/Palin have 10-point lead (9/8/2008 12:23:52 PM)

Both campaigns are out on the stump... I haven't taken the time in the last week to catch an entire campaign stop for either side, so I can't say whether or not questions have been asked and answered by the McCain side, I will take your word about Obama doing so.

I was going to slide down to Flint to catch Obama, but figured it would just be a waste of time and gas.  I don't agree with his stated positions or his proposed policies.  I can read anything he has to say or present from his own website (as I figure that would be the place to get the information he wants presented in the best light possible).

I'm a glutton for punishment, what can I say? ::chuckles:: Stop at a clinic, you're getting health care questions.. stop at a VA, you're getting national security/Iraq questions, stop at a school, it's all about education. It's been a fairly eclectic mix .. little of this, little of that so pretty much run of the mill as far as stumping goes. I'm about to go cold turkey on it all because if my daughter lets me anywhere near a television while I'm in CA to watch 'politics' I'll be very surprised. I'll be back to catch the last month up until the GE though .. like I said.. Oct politics and Halloween.. I'm in heaven. :)

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't you and Thadius saying essentially the same thing? That neither VP candidate has had much time since their respective conventions to engage the press directly, and that this is SOP for this period?

That this "the order of things"?[:D]

Well, Thadius asked if Biden had given any interviews and I responded, so, I guess it depends on your perspective. He asked a question, I answered it, then we just started to kibitz. Thadius and I may or may not hold similar views on similar subjects, but, at least with me, he's always shown himself to be open to at least hearing me out and I'd venture that he would feel the same way about me. Sometimes it happens that we happen to believe the same way, but until you start talking about it, you just don't know. I don't know whether or not Thadius believes that how things are going is SOP, but I certainly do and just wanted to emphasize that the standard for both candidates is the same.

They will do whatever it takes to hold on to power, and the fate of the country doesn't matter one whit.

Ummm... they share and are likely to continue to share power with the "left" as the "left' will still control Congress.

Divided Government works best because it gets the least done.
