I am willing to vote for someone who has the guts to stand up to the media and tell them that they are in fact irrelevant. I am willing to vote for someone I've met in person, someone that I've heard and seen speaking all across the country telling everyone what their views and positions on the issues are.
Oh, so you've met her then! So, what's she like in person? You feel comfortable with her, even though she belongs to a church that claims to "cure" gays, speaks in tounges, and has preperation drills for the rapture? That when she speaks about her position, she brings up that God supports HER plan for the gas pipeline? That she wants Creationisim taught in every classroom across the US? That she once tried to have books banned in her local library?
Oh, and guess what? The press is NOT irrelevant. If you knew anything about American Democratic history, you'd realize that the founders felt that a free press was paramount to a well functioning democracy. Our system of government works best when you have a well informed electorate... not when they are voting for an unknown with a history of extremisim.
Someone who does answer questions, when those questions are posed by people who really want to hear the answers and not some media elitist who is trying to smear her. Someone who knows what being a conservative means and isn't ashamed or apologetic about it.
But you see, that's the problem: she isn't answering questions. So far, all she's done is stand at a podium and give speeches on the party line. She hasn't been interviewed by anyone, and has not been asked anything but the softest of softball questions from a crowd.
The fact that just today, she let slip that she had no idea that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were publicly funded companies, or what their importance was, is REALLY troubling. What the hell else does she NOT know, that is supposedly basic knowledge of all other conservatives?
I don't give a damn that she's a female, she's a solid conservative with a good record to back up her words. Whether or not you believe that record, or agree with her positions, is irrelevant.
Well, her record so far is pretty piss poor, don't you think? She's only been the pick for VP for two weeks and already we're finding out she's telling us whoppers:
The "sorry kids, I had to fire that cook" lie. (She actually just transferred the cook to other duties, at a higher pay scale, but foisted this story off on the "drugged trout conservatives" because it made her look like she was saving the taxpayers of AK money.)
The "I sold the jet on ebay" lie (She actually sold it privately to a campaign contributor, and the state of AK took a loss on it, when she claimed it was a profitable sale on ebay.)
The "Thanks, but no thanks." on the funds for the bridge to nowhere lie. (She was for the bridge project, she accepted the money, then kept it after the plug was pulled on the bridge. THEN she decided she was against the bridge in the first place.)
The "I'm against earmarks" lie. (She herself hired lobbiests to get several million in earmarks for her small town in Wusszilla, AK.)
What, you think that because she's female she isn't qualified to lead this country and that she shouldn't have access to the nuclear arsenal? How very progressive of you. Oh, btw, she's in the running to be Vice President, not President in case you forgot.
If you bother to re-read my previous post, I said that she wasn't qualified, period. Not because she's female, but just because someone...anyone else... of her qualifications... isn't. Not for this job. She was the one who said, on videotape, that she had NO IDEA what the VP did. If McCain had picked a guy who had her same exact resume, he simply wouldn't have picked them to be on the ticket at all.
And yes, I remember she's running for VP. Do YOU remember what happens to a VP, when the President (say, one who is 73, and has had skin cancer twice, and a history of medical problems as long as my arm) dies in office? It's only happened 7 out of 43 times in the history of the US, and McCain will be history's oldest president of the US, should he win.
They even checked Insurance Industry Actuary tables, and found that McCain has a 1 in 3 chance of dying in his first year as President. (According to his age, health, and it being a high pressure job.) So, you REALLY want this pick as your commander in chief? REALLY?
