I am running out of patience with Mozilla Firefox, it has since my last update been what might be called a complete load of crap. Why, because though most of the time it works, but sometimes it just freezes or collapses without warning, and so if you are in mid writing of post, everything is lost. The other thing I have found, is if you click on a web address in google and for whatever reason the site cannot be found or I get a 404 error, I cannot back out of that site, pressing the back button will not get me out and back to google. What I have to do, is close the tab, open another and retype my search information.

Now, I am being prompted by firefox to download and update to the latest browser, which I am reluctant to do, given the problems I am experiencing with this edition. Now it has occurred that given that I am running the much maligned Vista OS, the thought is, maybe vista is something to do with this, but then given the problems I have with vista, I am I admit a bit vistanoid.

I am running Firefox version 2.0.0.0.16, and Vista home basic

Anyone any ideas, apart from ditching vista ?

I was about to try something new to work with to avoid my vista nightmare, but was concerned about this happening.  I still don't know how to work the situation out.  I wish you luck on this one!

Firefox used to be a simple, fast browser, but now, I cannot help but think it is becoming to heavy with all it's new bells and whistles. I have used Firefox for a few years, and on another puter, Opera. I like Opera, it is very fast, but it does demand a fair bit from the CPU from time to time. Thinking back, I never had any problems with Opera as it was running on Win 98 SE, and never had any problems with Firefox when that was running on another win 98 SE machine

Now, I have one puter, running vista, and I opted for firefox, only to make me think along the lines of crossing back to Opera. I will try the new download and see how it fares before I change, thanks.

Google Chrome's a great alternative, although the lack of plugins hurts it.

We run firefox on Mac without too much problems. It's not perfect though, lol. But it's ok.

It could be the Vista as I don't have too many problems with Mozilla Firefox. But then again I'm running Linux (a Red Hat derivative).

Alternatives I'd suggest are Epiphany and Seamonkey, closely followed by Opera.

ok- I have 3 beta 5.

try disabling or uninstalling the add ons.

also- another browser namely explorer could be insisting that it is the default browser.  that is the case with my desktop computer. they fight eachother and I cant go anywhere.  but then somehow the xp- isnt genuine. I dont know how that happened. I paid a few times for the xp.  [5 computers, of which 3 are used regularly]

Even some of the large USA corporations have refused to install Vista and have remained with XP.  I have FF 2.0.0.16 running on Win2K ( yes I know, ancient,  still...it works and no problema)  and had some frequent problems of "Firefox has made some errors and will now be closed by Windows"  but no freezes.  Deleted FF and reinstalled and now it hums along and have had no errors in several months. Tried FF 3 but thought the display and presentations were crappy plus had the FF made errors message so went back to 2.0.0.16

I have never had one bit of problem using Firefox on Vista and I always let FF update as it needs to.  I would tend to think it is an issue with a setting or another application such as an unstable add-on, or as mentioned above, IE trying to be the default.  Also, do not rule out your ISP.  I have a site I use regularly that seems to hang-up my DSL so that when I have it up and anything else in new tab, the "anything else" will go 404 on me when I try to refresh it.

I have issues with FF all the time - clicking a link to end up with a forever loading/refreshing page and being unable to see it, being unable to view images which for some reason give me the "this image has errors" message.  It seems to just be a little more cumbersome, and if it weren't for my massive fave list, i'd uninstal for IE.
