Cr8tivSir -> Simple Thoughts, Analogies about the lifestyle; U have others to add? (9/9/2008 6:37:24 AM)

Be well and enjoy the lifestyle. Please feel free to add. [:)]

The best insight I can impart (if you wish to accept it), are a few analogies and thoughts to help wade through things and maybe less confusing or overwhelming.

There are many aspects of the lifestyles, that can be independent of one another or over lap a great deal. If you can imagine a series of transparent coloured circles (being: Dominance, submission, bondage, S&M, bedroom slave, sexuality, fetishes, etc.) where every person is different and chooses to overlap them the best way that suits him or her. that overlap can represent you, a blend or mix that is unique. Be YOU first, not try to be everything or like everything.

Another analogy that works well, is that to the world's largest all-you-can-eat Gourmet 5-star buffet that goes one for ever so it seems. The selections are overwhelming and almost intimidating. You can not take it all in at once, would take years to see, taste and digest everything. Do not let it be overwhelming to you. Take your time and enjoy the pleasures, atmospheres and the journey if you will. Sample a little of this and a little of that. Indulge in what you like. Look at what others have on their plate. Some you will like, some will make you want to run the other way (FAST!), lol. Just like food, you do not have to like everything nor even like it a particular way. For example, chicken can be served a variety of: styles Chinese, Hungarian, Thai., southern, etc; cooked in a pan, deep fried, bar-b-qued or baked or in cold salad; with variations of spice from mild to scorching hot; and mixed with so many other things to be very unique in it's presentation and taste. All the things in this lifestyle are no different, the choices and dynamics of the two (or more) people make it impossible to know or try everything.

One if not the most important, enjoy the journey, more than the designation. Rush to try and get to the top of the mountain to see everything and accomplish the goal should not be at the expense of missing so much. Travelling a thousand miles while speeding will get you there fast. Yet if you walk and meander through the forests, saunter on the beaches, scuba dive in totally different underworlds of creatures and realms. Standing just feet from the water’s edge watching the powerful ocean waves in a fierce storm, creating a vision of turmoil, the spray on your face, your own insignificant size, can be more intense and memorable then the sunny day getting a tan. Meet, greet and make friends along the way, take in the sights, watch from a far or have your nose so close to smell the scent that stays a lifetime in your mind, etc.. Which will you remember, which will give you the greatest reward. Some things you will like, some you will not. you will only know by exploring and experimenting. Just do not be foolish, take your time and be safe .... do not try to scale the steep mountain face without experience, when the wandering foot path maybe a much better journey to take.

Do not be afraid to blend it with your real life, as we spend 98% of our time with responsibilities of the real world, and as much as it is part of us, it does not remain independent and therefore it appears to still be recreational for the most part. Mind you, like while playing any sport, while in the game, the intensity and dynamics are like no other. So we do think all week long of playing in that Friday night game. For the love of the Game, we play.

We are not perfect creatures, nor do there exist ideal roles or styles. Blend what works for you. Choose what integrates best with the real you. Life is a series of compromises, do not be afraid to dominant or submissive.
One of the greatest things I learned in this lifestyle is that I can love it, just do not have to love all of it or not even like parts of it, yet indulge in so much it does not matter.

Enough rumblings for now.

Simple thoughts, concepts and ideas that might help someone new to see a bigger picture and enjoy their recreational life. I am sure everyone has a number of other sayings, insight and advice to add. Blogs, journals and posts, read them, we can learn from everything and everyone we involve ourselves with. Take them all in. Not all shall be applicable or relate to you, at least at this time. Yet carry in your mind the ones you can relate to and make common sense to you.

Still the student everyday, even after 15 years. Joe

PS: I cherish the thoughts, time and the journeys I have shared with my few submissives over the years. Thank you b.

Others to add? Nope. Because I don't live a lifestyle , I live life.

A person has many choices in his/her life's journey.

Keep is simple.

The more You share, the more You accrual ....... from others and life as a whole.

There are times when the most simplistic response is silent lucidity of a smile!

Like Irish Mist, I just have a life, not a lifestyle.

Beyond that, I have never been accused of keeping my writing short and sweet the op beats me out hands down for excess use of verbiage.

Sorry OP, I'm not one for reading long posts anyway and I have little tolerance for what seems like over flowery, poetic BDSM ideology - but the thread title itself has promise.  Analogies....?

Some that I've found helpful work for life in general - not necessarily confined to a specific lifestyle:

If something looks, walks and quacks like a duck, we're in the presence of a duck!
Useful for those trying to convince you that left is right; up is down or black is white.

Water always finds its own natural level.
Worth considering when you ponder what makes different people gravitate in different directions....

Philosophies, too:

"Silence is one of the most effective forms of communication." -- Unknown
Within a D/s relationship, I communicate often with just my eyes, too.

Focus.

But of course! There was no need to ask, nevertheless, i humbly thank You lady!!

P.S. The OP rarely if ever carries on in such a fashion R/T. More often then not, was i who would ramble on until the Op's eyes were glazed over, and He would merely do as i stated ........... simply, and sweetly smile! We both concured to my painful release prior to my move down South. There were only tearful tender looks of aknowledgement during those written, and verbal exchanges. Although we are dear friends and still keep in contact, Sir still affords me the merciful lucidity of a smile from miles away!!

Focus you forgot..

Scum like Cream  rises to the top.

As for analogies for BDSM..my philosophy is simple.. My Kink may not be your Kink but your Kink is OK too as long as it does not involve those who cannot consent.

Life is a terminal disease, you never get over it alive, so live it like tomorrow may be your last day. It just might be.

One could argue that preoccupation with being outside the semantic title of "lifestyle" can itself be one...but that would just be getting silly.

It's like saying no one has an occupation, everyone just "works". The word should be meant to be communicative and informative. Granted, I'm sure there are people incredible attached to the facade of a "lifestyle" without any actual depth of interest in it...

Swerving back to the topic, though....analogies? I can't think up a specific one at the moment, but think of any aspect of reality where something can be genuinely enjoyable and fulfilling for 2+ people despite a normal predisposition by most people to think it's unhealthy/negative.
