Straining to reach money goal, Obama presses donors

quote:

Pushing a fund-raiser later this month, a finance staff member sent a sharply worded note last week to Illinois members of its national finance committee, calling their recent efforts "extremely anemic."

If running a Presidential campaign is how Obama demonstrates his Presidential qualities, what does his current fund raising woes say of his judgement--as well as his decision to go back on his word about public financing, and roll the dice with his private fundraising efforts?

Newsweek did a write up on it as well...

http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/stumper/archive/2008/09/09/was-obama-right-to-opt-out-of-public-financing.aspx

quote:

On the night of Sept. 16, Barack Obama will not be in Cincinnati, Ohio, or Lebanon, Va., or Grand Rapids, Mich., or any of the other swingiest regions of the swingiest swing states. Instead, the Democratic presidential nominee will start his evening at a 46,000 square-foot mansion in Beverly Hills, then proceed to the posh Beverly Wilshire hotel, where rooms start at $495 a night. Needless to say, Obama won't be prospecting for votes in the Golden State, where he currenty leads Republican rival John McCain by an insurmountable 15-point margin. He'll be mining for money.

Just like clockwork the pendulum is starting to swing the other way.
In November Hillary is going to say; "See? I told you so!"
You can bet that she's already started her war fund for 2012!
And she won't be doing any "fundraising" for Obama.

Also from the article:

But the campaign is struggling to meet ambitious fund-raising goals it set for the campaign and the party. It collected in June and July far less from Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's donors than originally projected. Moreover, McCain, unlike Obama, will have the luxury of concentrating almost entirely on campaigning instead of raising money, as Obama must do.

Please tell me Obama saw this coming.......the man cannot be that clueless (can he?).

He thought the money would continue in on automatic.  That is becoming obvious.

CL, that's what I don't understand, why would Obama want the Clinton's anywhere NEAR his campaign?
He must know that they'll do *anything* they can to sabotage him and gain strength for 2012 when Hillary will run again.
Her supporters in Massachusetts and other states will be voting for McCain to knock Obama out of the running and solidly position Hillary for 2012.
If there's one thing we know for sure it's that the Clintons will do *anything* to get and keep power!
You can be sure that her supporters "are" raising money alright just not for Obama.
They'll be salting it away for 2012!

Historical irony: In 1976 Ronald Reagan was barely edged out by President Gerald Ford for the Republican nomination. Some historians and even Gerald Ford himself speculated that had Reagan campaigned more vigorously for Ford in Illinois (Reagan's home state) and elsewhere, Ford might have actually pulled that election squeaker off. The 1976 campaign, of course, did set up Reagan to run and win in 1980.

JFK made his primary rival his VP candidate--LBJ.
Ronald Reagan made his primary rival his VP candidate--George H.W. Bush

Ford scorned his primary rival--and lost.
Obama scorned his primary rival--and now might lose.

The news definitely seems to be hurting him in the political prediction markets: his chances of winning are down now to only 53%, and John McCain's chances are now up to 47%.
