Greetings A/all,

Who here is potentially in the path of Hurricane Ike?  How are the preparations going?  Anyone planning on evacuating?

The damage in Cuba and other islands in the Caribbean is bad.

As of now, it looks like it'll land around Corpus Christi, but if it slows down, bad news for us on the upper coast.

Maybe it will get better coverage than Gustav.  This area was hit hard by Gustav and is still in a mess.  But you'd never know it from the news coverage.  All they were concerned with is that New Orleans didn't get hit hard.

Baton Rouge and the surrounding area, along with other parts of south Louisiana took the brunt of the storm.  But we're not the party capital of the world that New Orleans is, so no one gave a hoot.

Yes, I've been very worried about my friend UR2BAdored. She lives in the area that was hit badly and evacuated north to Baton Rouge.

There are still large areas all over the city and surrounding area that have no power.  Traffic is a mess in the city because of the power outages.

My Master is a fireman and they have a hard time getting anywhere when they are called out.

If she lives anywhere along the coastal areas just west of New Orleans, they were hit hard and she may not be able to return yet.

Because Louisiana is a largely rural state, it can be difficult restoring power and other services to some areas.

I understand, angel. We were hit by Rita, not long after Katrina; talk about being overshadowed.

I was watching the evening news and the reports are that much of Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas will be without power for the next few weeks, maybe even until the end of the month.
