Do you believe in culinary aphrodisiacs? Basic foods such as pineapples (bromeline), ginsing, figs, almonds, chocolate, oysters, asparagus, etc have claimed to boost ones libido. Do you believe or not. If you do, how have you used them; if  you don't, why? I have used them with my subs, b/c that's my profession but I have always wondered have others even considered them as a part of their everyday play. Psychological v/s actual.

Yes, absolutely....
Lime and Tequila!  [:D]

Edit to add:
On a serious note -- Yes, certain foods do get me aroused.  I'm sure that it has more to do with the a variety of factors such as taste, texture, and general mood vs. a chemical agent in the food.  Example:  The creamy texture of Creme Brulee arouses me -- as does a perfectly seared and yet "very rare" Filet Mignon.

Notice how these are foods which are light, easily digestible, and low in fat. Obviously it's easier to have vigorous sex after eating these than say, fried chickens and biscuits.

Lynnxz -> RE: Aphrodisiacs (9/9/2008 7:07:25 PM)

C and I swear by Jagerbombs.  ;)

We decided oysters were an aphrodisiac because usually, when you are having oysters, you are at a bar. (We are at least?)

Chocolate, we decided, was because the guy had just bought the woman a box of chocolates, and she was happy about it.

*shrug*

lol, Hime!

that's funny cuz mine is vodka! even if i rarely drank, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy! [:D]

MadRabbit -> RE: Aphrodisiacs (9/9/2008 7:22:13 PM)

There's no scientific evidence to prove that they improve the sex drive on a chemical level. It's just psychological assocation in my opinion like cookies at christmas, turkey on thanksgiving, and ice cream when it gets hot. We just associate oysters and champagne with sex and they help "get us in the mood" on a mental level.

DomDolf -> RE: Aphrodisiacs (9/9/2008 7:26:01 PM)

I can think of only one thing I eat that always makes me want to perform. Light and low in fat too! Ther may be a psychological association there too...

I like mine with whip cream and strawberries [:D]

Brownbohemian -> RE: Aphrodisiacs (9/9/2008 7:41:02 PM)

I do enjoy biscuits and fried chicken. A well fried chicken does turn me on and feather light biscuit, lord have mercy, makes me wanna spank something. Then again I am Southern.
O.K seriously I have found that it is more psychological. However, in the case of certain foods such as chocolate that contain ingredients that effect seratonin levels (happy juice naturally made in the brain) and almonds( nuts) help to feed our energy levels like coal to a steam engine.  Oyster on the other hand supplies zinc (energy), but they have to be consumed in massive amounts. So we end up falling back on our psycholigical triggers. But  there has to be something to it.

I am more of a whiskey and rum gal, myself

A damn good sparkling wine http://www.lmawby.com/buy/winesdetail.asp?id=8

A couple bottles and if the lady isn't naked, I'll end up buying her a replacement outfit.

Not sure why it has that effect on me, but it does

Huntertn -> RE: Aphrodisiacs (9/9/2008 9:04:54 PM)

your trying to say chocolate has no chemical reactions in subs

BiteGirl -> RE: Aphrodisiacs (9/9/2008 9:28:15 PM)

Quick question: are there any foods that you can eat that will make you not arroused?

EDIT:: As in they will diminish your libedo instead of increase it.

Asparagus might be an aphrodisiac for those who eat it.  However, giving a blow job to a male who has recently eaten asparagus can be awful.  Not only does his urine take on an awful smell, his ejaculate tastes just plain awful.

pompeii -> RE: Aphrodisiacs (9/9/2008 10:24:36 PM)

I second the notion that kitty juice is the best aphrodisiac this side of Texas .... having said that, watermelon is reputed to "increase the libido".

Read this July 2008 purportedly scientific article, for example, out of Texas A&M, where Science Daily says"
"watermelon has ingredients that deliver Viagra-like effects to the body’s blood vessels and may even increase libido."

Any heavy, holiday meal. Ever get up from the Thanksgiving table filled with an urge for sex? Never going to happen.

Beyond that, individual to the person. If you had to stay at the table until you finished your peas, then peas will be a turn off. Had food poisoning after eating fried clams? Ditto

Here is what I could find, but why dampen the libido?
Anaphrodisiacs (opposite of aphrodisiacs): Lavender, camphor, comfrey,hops, and white water Lilly
