My fav color combo is red/blk. I do admit to usually having SOMETHING black on :)  I believe that women wear it because it's supposed to be a "slimming" color, hiding the flaws where white brings EVERYTHING to the surface :(
A plain blk dress can be dressed up w/the correct jewelry...a simple gold necklace or a string of pearls, bracelet & earrings and you're ready to go out on the town or to work. I love my little black dress :)

GreedyTop -> RE: Colour (9/10/2008 9:39:26 AM)

I have the most awesome little black dress.. its the kind of fabric that does not wrinkle...

Missokyst -> RE: Colour (9/10/2008 10:35:55 AM)

I like black because it goes with everything!  But, I look fabulous in dark teal, dark maroon, and deep plum colors.  I get black because those other colors are not always easy to find.

Oh and BTW, I always picture you in a deep forest green, or a rich reddish brown.

Here at work I see alot of blue, green, taupe, black. I tend to favour natural blue and green colours, browns, deep dark red reds, black.

Vendaval -> RE: Colour (9/10/2008 11:57:09 AM)

I favor black and dark colors combined with silver jewelry.  Dark blues, wine or burgundy, greys, greens and purples are prominent.  One of my favorite things to do is mix and match textures.  Luxurious fabrics look wonderful and feel good on the skin. Pima cotton shirts are very soft and look almost like silk.  Corduroy and a textured sweater in complimentary colors are a good match.  I am allergic to wool so have to wear something long sleeved under it to avoid an instant rash.  Satin, silk and velvet are wonderfully decadent.

I rarely wear prints, preferring solids and the occasional vertical stripes.

For hot weather though, I am more pragmatic and will wear light and neutral colors to avoid over-heating and sweating to death.  lol

About the only things white in my wardrobe are some basic crew socks, panties and athletic shoes for working out.

Aneirin -> RE: Colour (9/10/2008 3:45:51 PM)

You got me started on textures now, for I love contrasts in materials. I do not get on with cottons, wool or any course fibre, but much prefer the wearing of silk, velvet type material, and leather. Often it is I combine black leather with rust red silk, or black leather with claret coloured velvet. I want a forest green velvet shirt, but unless I get lucky at an Asian clothing store, they are kind of scarce.

This is daily wear for me, but then I get away with it as I am just another oddball at Art college.

Though it is decadant, I just love the  more dramatic richer fabrics.

Interesting though, loose dark clothing keeps one cooler in hot weather, cooler than white fabrics, due to the radiation effect.White or light reflects heat back to the body, whereas black absorbs heat from the body, the wind, takes the heat away, anything above 0.2 mph.

*picturing this..... YUMMMMMMM*

beargonewild -> RE: Colour (9/10/2008 4:08:30 PM)

Usually wear black or blue colors. Mainly as I'm drawn towards the darker colors though reds, oranges and greens I dislike.

kiwisub12 -> RE: Colour (9/10/2008 4:13:24 PM)

I like blue and green in very clear colours, and mix in a little black for contrast.

E2Sweet -> RE: Colour (9/10/2008 4:31:28 PM)

Around here, everyone goes crazy with the black in the fall and winter.

I will confess my closet is dominated (*haha*) by black, but with some blues, grays and greens mixed in there as well, as those match the eyes. Black is the ultimate slimming color for sure...

I can usually do some earthy, and most very dark colors, but anything extremely bold/bright (except white since I'm so pure and innocent[;)]) on me looks odd.

Vendaval -> RE: Colour (9/10/2008 6:17:50 PM)

Yeah, all those super-bright colors from summer are still in some palettes for the fall/winter.  Not everyone can pull those kinds of shades off well.

I wear quite a bit of linen shirts and rayon dressses during the summer. If you want some nice velvet clothes I have links to several Gothic clothing sites.  If not for employer dress codes, I would be dressed in leather and velvet throughout the fall and winter.

Art school is so much fun! [:D]

Yea for decadence!

When on the beach or playa I have black for night but stick to light tank/short or sarongs during the daylight hours.

Ohhh, if I could wear silk, velvet and leather every day I would be in HEAVEN!!

Unfortunately, with my lifestyle, that would be verrrrrry expensive.

OMG, I just saw a very large, balding, middleaged man walking down the street in jeans, a blue and white polo shirt and a pink, shiny vinyl, Hello Kitty backpack on. I love this town!

Vendaval -> RE: Colour (9/11/2008 9:12:12 PM)

OMG LaT!  I feel the same way about some of the tourists that come through here in the summer.  Shirts too tight and too short, shorts too tight and too short, fat belly sticking out, ass-crack showing, hairy legs, hairy chest, gold chains, bad dye jobs, long white athletic socks, fanny pack in a bright color, and dark dress shoes!  [sm=spanking.gif]

On walking around my town yesterday, I for whatever reason started to notice what people wear, not the style they wear, but the colour, I noticed the most dominant colour was black and there began to wonder why, why is it people like to wear black. Now I wear black, most of the time, I ask myself why I wear black and though I can think of some reasons, they are not the over riding reason, I am just comfortable in black, but why ?

Has anyone else noticed what the dominant colour is amongst the people they live and work with, is it black, or is it a different colour ?

Those here, what colour do you wear  predominantly, do you have a reason for that colour, or is you are just comfortable, if you are comfortable, can  you say why ?

I always wear black; I have no other color in my wardrobe [:)] I wear black for several reasons; I absolutly love the color black. Why? Because it tends to reflect me. My whole personality is dark; I wear a color that reflects that.
The other reason is that wearing black, I actually blend in a bit better here.

I live in a part of the country that is almost 99% Amish; they wear black dresses, black shoes, black blouses, and black hats. The men all wear black.

It's very rare to see a person dresses in color around here. Even the schools; though not all Amish, have a dress code of Black pants, black shoes, and white shirts. No other color is allowed with the exception of gym clothes; which follows the code of red shirts and black shorts with white socks and sports shoes.

I think...just think...that people tend to dress according to what thier mood and personality are ( with the exception of those who have a strict code to adhere to ).
Of course, you have those who tend to dress according to fashion [:)], and that includes the colors that they choose.

wandersalone -> RE: Colour (9/12/2008 8:17:10 AM)

My wardrobe is an explosion of colour....lots of black but also a lot of bright colours, plain and patterned.  I have a few pastels but mostly keep away from them.  If wearing black I often jazz it up with a bright hat, scarf or gloves in winter.  Bright colours make me happy. [:)]

Vendaval -> RE: Colour (9/12/2008 4:15:17 PM)

My gear and leather bodice are black and blue.  I usually combine that with silver rather than gold.

Missokyst -> RE: Colour (9/12/2008 8:36:50 PM)

LMAO.. that's hilarious!
