Actually, it John Stewart who foretold the MSNBC change. Glad those guys decided to steer away from the Fox News model, and you're right, its odd to claim that was caused by the right wing. Still, Mathews and Olberman irritate the right. Still, Greenwald's take on how a non-story becomes a story and dominates the headlines is insightful.

I hate to admit it, but I watch all 3 of the lefty shows on MSNBC, just to get an idea of what to expect next, you know the whole concept of knowing your enemy. It seems that the blogosphere is what drives much of this, and with the unnamed armies out there being unaccountable for what they write and post... There is a sense of panic amongst the left, and they are grasping at straws, instead of focusing on the tops of the tickets they think there must be something dark and scary in the closet of Gov Palin, and each one of them wants to be the one to find it. Thinking there will be some sort of reward for the effort. It is just furthering the claims made during the Dem primaries about the media bias and the accusations of sexism that were in play against Sen. Clinton. Just my opinions on it.

I just remembered an excellent example. Yesterday on countdown, Olberman listed 3 scandals... one of which was that Rove was now advising McCain and as proof he showed footage from a couple of years ago, the reason I know it was old footage was it also had a healthy looking Tony Snow in the shots, something that most of his viewers would not have picked up on or even realized. Time to catch the replays... [;)]

Why do Democrats not challenge the hard left accusation when it is patently false yet never attack the Republicans for being hard right which is patently true?

I don't know how you can do it. I don't watch TV news at all. TV is mostly about entertainment and ratings. When the SUN paper covered a case of mine, at least it was legitimate journalism. When the local TV stations wanted a piece of the action, it was an air-headed mouthpiece interested only in human interest angles. I found the contrast striking. Now the the SUN (Baltimore) is being gutted. All the foreign desks were closed, the reporting staff has been halved, and its format has been dumbed down to look like USA TODAY or Entertainment Weekly. That's great though, I love the image of you watching Olbermann. I would not view Fox news as "the enemy." I just don't see it as a very good news source. On TV I like FRONTLINE and the News Hour with Jim Leher. (Which tends to just interview experts to interpret events.) I haven't even watched THE NEWS HOUR in a long time.

Um, yeah... CL, right... To use the current example, the whole "lipstick" debate was manufactured by the McCain campaign... (their idea of substative debate?) Except that now, thanks to the miracle of online video, we now have six or seven examples of McCain using the same phrase, and the ploy is backfiring. McCain really needs to be set down, and have this internet thing explained to him. That his past will always come back to haunt him when he does or says something stupid like this. Now... back to the energy/foriegn policy/economy debates....
