If you pack vibrators in your carry on, be they battery operated or plug in style they will make you prove that they are what they appear to be. You will be required to turn it on and plug it in right at the security area.

I've never had this experience, either.  Maybe it differs on where you're flying to?

But I've travelled with all manners of vibrators in my bags before and never been stopped or asked to prove what it is.  And yep, this is post 9/11.

My new pictures got denied for some reason, so excuse the faceless bunny for now. =_=

As stated above I was curious about how traveling with your Bondage or Rubber gear would play out with the tight airport security, I was planning on traveling soon and was not sure what my rights are with this sort of ordeal. Like I dont want to get there and for some reason them thinking my latex outfit is considered bomb materials and have to confinscate it, know what I mean? Or if I took restraints and would be arrested. I would just rather be safe than sorry.

Any insight or previous experiences would be greatly appreciated before I board.

I've always wanted to take it to an extreme.

here's a good example of what that means: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kllqs_SS-eM&feature=related

1:30 is where it gets relevent.

What I've found is that if you travel through airports at major municipalities, they don't twig at much.  But, the small regional places will call in two levels of supervision to check out the "strange items".
Flying out of Iowa City I once had to go all the way to the head of security to get someone to admit that a camera tripod was not a "bludgeoning device". And that an egg vibrator could not be used as an "explosive trigger".
Now, flying with a toolbox is more difficult.  The computer programs will flag a row of sockets as "ammunition" and set off alarms.  Think of what the x-ray will look like on your items.  Do they have wires and batteries?  You might get searched.

Ship ahead for the highest level of safety - UPS, Fedex, whatever.

Ill have to agree here.  It's perhaps a little bit more of a hassle, but it saves possible embarrassment at the airport and better yet, lost or stolen toys as mishandling of baggage seems to be not so uncommon... This is how I always moved my toys when I traveled by air, so I can confirm the folks at UPS don't question you on kinky package contents aside from that "Contents" line on the USP shipping form you fill out in the lobby... Novelty Items works just fine for the purposes of the form, by the way...

That's a really good idea. Oddly enough, I've actually never thought of that. [:)]

Indeed. Since 9/11, but its my understanding now that all restraints that are packed in carry-ons are confiscated at airport security points. I used to carry my handcuffs right in my camera bag or laptop case for no other reason than I could, but now its a no-no.

Metal handcuffs can also be used as a weapon if you open them up and swing them at someone, which I think is a very big part of why they get confiscated -- also some kind of possibly false urban legend about how carrying a handcuff key if you're a civilian is illegal because some convict got out of some handcuffs with a key he had and killed a police officer, can't verify that one though.

I've carried leather cuffs, however, through checkpoints with no problem at all -- I'd expect that the ones with big sharp spikes on them might be inspected further but if they're just the simple leather-and-D-ring ones, you should be allright.

Oh yes, they can be a nasty blunt weapon at that. Even someone wearing them can swing them as a weapon and I know I wouldn't want to catch the edge of them on any solid part of my body...

I also cannot verify that beyond doubt, but I do carry a handcuff key on all my key chains (I have cuffs on my rear-view mirror and everyone who gets in my car just has to play with them), and I've actually showed the key to a deputy sheriff before. He checked it with his Peerless cuffs to see if it worked (nearly all police style keys are universal btw) but he didn't really say carrying the key was illegal. He was strangely surprised I was able to come into possession of one, which I think is odd given police style handcuffs are very easy to get a hold of.

I'm kind of surprised they even let leather cuffs though, but I'm wondering if its because they likely don't show up in the Xray, or perhaps the handler didn't know what he or she was seeing...

Likely they aren't identifiable on the xray.  I've never had anything in my bags to warrant a regular search, except just after 9/11 when they pretty much checked everybody's bags, and at that time I wasn't yet taking my show on the road.  [:D]

My poor mother, on the other hand, gets random checks EVERY SINGLE TIME.  We joke that somebody must have put her on the no-fly list with how frequently it happens.  I kind of feel bad for her when I'm waving from the other side of the security checkpoint all smiles and she's getting wanded down in the fancy glass room.

slavekal -> RE: BDSM and airport security (9/13/2008 8:33:11 AM)

Ms. Mlicious and I were traveling with some gear.  When security opened her suitcase and saw thigh high boots, whips, and such, they just closed it back up and waved us through.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Ticket agents have nothing to do with what happens with your bags once the TSA has them. Being nice to them might get you an exit row or an upgrade but they have no influence over the people who will be searching luggage.

Wheldrake -> RE: BDSM and airport security (9/13/2008 9:35:14 AM)

I think the safest thing is simply to put the toys in checked luggage, instead of carrying them on to the plane.

But speaking of airport security... am I the only one who gets just a tiny submissive thrill whenever I'm told to assume the position to be scanned with one of those black wands?

YourhandMyAss -> RE: BDSM and airport security (9/13/2008 9:46:46 AM)

Do not check toys you'd be upset abouty having lost or stolen. There's several people on here who've experinced the airlines stealing very expensive and sentimental pieces, one woman in case had the custom made flogger she made her dom stolen, and one woman on here journaled about the airlines loosing her BRAND NEW equipment.
