Actually, it's an interesting albeit obscure aspect of WIITWD. We saw quite a few "ponies" at Folsom. At the last Munch we attended we enjoyed sitting across from a man who was fully into his pony-boy role. He had made himself all the tack, which I understand can be very expensive if you try to buy it "off the rack". He went as far as to attend a "pony camp" and entered a few "show-pony" contests. Now that he won one, he's considering retiring and moving on, but he throughly enjoyed the experience.
He said it was a way to "let out the animal" in him. Totally uninhibited, totally at the "control" of his rider. In his case he was a cart pulling pony. He even went to "Burning Man" and lived as a pony for that event giving cart rides. He said the options run the gamut, from feather bedecked prancing ponies to "working" plow ponies. Either sex can be any variation.
It sounds like a big commitment, especially in the cash outlay for all the gear. beth, as always, thought it interesting for the costume. she liked the thought of being in a feathered costume, with thigh high "prancing boots" and the rest of the leather tack.
