Thadius -> ABC has posted Palin interview excerpts (9/11/2008 3:58:20 PM)

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Vote2008/Story?id=5782924&page=1

Instead of highlighting any particular part, I will leave it to you to read and watch.

Aneirin -> RE: ABC has posted Palin interview excerpts (9/11/2008 5:10:48 PM)

I am very sorry to all you so concerned, but whenever I see the name , 'Palin', I think of Michael Palin, one time member of Monty Python's Flying Circus, and his later very humorous antics.

Vendaval -> RE: ABC has posted Palin interview excerpts (9/11/2008 5:21:43 PM)

Thank you for posting the link, Thadius.

NeedToUseYou -> RE: ABC has posted Palin interview excerpts (9/11/2008 7:38:03 PM)

I just watched the it on Youtube.

Quite Frankly I was not impressed at all. She appeared to be more concerned with squirming than answering the questions. She didn't appear to know what the Bush Doctrine was, but ultimately agreed that it was okay to send troops into Pakistan against there will. She stated that Urkraine and Georgia should be allowed into NATO, and didn't seem at all bothered by the fact that could erupt into WWIII.

Oh, and she basicly said that whatever Israel wanted to do was okay with her, stating we can't second guess them for some reason.

All in All, up to this point I was undecided on Palin, now, I don't like her.

Just for the record, the part about Israel is the exact same way Obama and every other candidate has answered the question.

The rest is based on opinion, so I will leave that alone.

I don't like Obamas position on Israel either. Some of the above is opinion, some pretty much fact. I never stated everything up there was fact.

It's completely obvious she doesn't know what the Bush doctrine is. It's pretty much a factual statement that she is okay with sending troops into Pakistan against Pakistans will. It's a fact that she says she wants Georgia and the Ukraine in NATO.

Anyway, here are the links I watched, people can watch and make their own opinions.

Thadius -> RE: ABC has posted Palin interview excerpts (9/11/2008 7:51:19 PM)

After catching a few talking heads talking about it, and a poster here discussing it.  I have just one question.  When did it become policy to allow Russia to determine who is or is not allowed in NATO, especially if they are threatening violence?[8|]

celticlord2112 -> RE: ABC has posted Palin interview excerpts (9/11/2008 7:58:57 PM)

I liked the way she handled the "task from God" comment.  If you listen to the vid clip she never said that Iraq was a task from God, but that folks should pray that it is.

In other words, sports fans, Sarah Palin asked a congregation to pray that the U.S. was doing the right thing.

I never stated that it was up to Russia. Your drawing false conclusions. The situation in Russia and Georgia is not resolved there are conflicting reports as to why the conflict occurred we in the US are assuming that everything Russia says is a lie for some reason. I think the better response would be to send international investigators to try to find proof of Russian claims, before going back to this cold war mentality that everything Russia does is evil. Once that is resolved and clarified then one could decide on such issues as NATO. If it is determined that it was a purely aggressive action then at that point the decision should be made, if the Russian reports are true then Georgia should be punished.

That's how I look upon it. Right now, there is virtually no effort to prove or disprove the allegations, just assumptions of right and wrong. Georgia may not be innocent or they may be innocent or whatever, same for Russia, why don't we figure that out first before we start antagonizing each other.

All I've seen is that Russia went into Georgia, we believe and promote everything Georgia says for the most part, and discount all Russian accounts.

How much more do you need?

Russia invaded.  Russia is the aggressor.  Russia is in the wrong.

Georgia is the aggreived party in that conflict.

Sarah handled that well....she articulated a clear position, and a defensible one.  She was forceful, articulate, and succinct.

The question was does she believe Georgia and Ukraine should be admitted into NATO, she answered yes to both, then the question was asked if the US should go to war, to which she said if they were members of NATO that it is the responsibility as part of the treaty to help, and to perhaps get involved on the ground (pardon my paraphrasing), however the word PERHAPS was definitely in the wording.  Which is a fact.  Article 5 of the NATO treaty requires all allies to treat an attack on one as an attack on all, and for the untited defense of an ally.

Just my 2 cents, for what they are worth in this economy...

MzMia -> RE: ABC has posted Palin interview excerpts (9/11/2008 8:13:31 PM)

Thank you for sharing a great link Thadius.

My impression of her is sinking even lower, I am less than impressed.
I can't believe she could be the next Vice-President of the United States.

Is it too late to nominate Sarah Palin to become the Chief Librarian at the Library
of Congress?

She might have some suggestions to make.[:D]

If Georgia was committing genocide, and Russia invaded, I really don't care if Russia broke international protocol, no one would hold it against us for doing the same.

My ultimate assumption is however, that Russia was probably the aggressor, why not prove it 100%. Whether right or wrong letting Georgia join NATO before that is determined to any level of certainty, is nothing more than a bitch slap in Russia's face, little good will come from such childish displays. Tell me what is the rush of all this NATO talk, anyway. It's not going to do anything other than make things more unstable.

All of you Palin supporters....after listening to this interview do you still believe she is qualified? If so are we hearing the same things? Do you have any doubts at all?

Yes I'm quailfied to be commander in chief because I can see Russia... from an island...have mercy

Transcript: "Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God...That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."

I can't believe how many people are still stuck in the brilliant trap McCain laid.  Palin is on the bottom of the R ticket.  Now look at how long it took the top of the D ticket to figure out that Russia has a veto in the UN Security Council.

Keep right on asking about qualifications, and it keeps bouncing right back.  The only voters who matter anymore are watching.

This is what is worrying about her and Republican foreign policy in general. I've mentioned it before. The Republicans want Ukraine in NATO because it will get up the nose of the Russians, there can be no other rason for it but its not thought through. Ukraine has a pro-west President and a Pro-Russian Prime Minister, military chief and police chief. After the next election they will probably have a pro-Russian President. The Republicans will be inviting literally thousands of spies into NATO membership. That tells me that teh Republicans want to see an end to NATO, a legitimate policy to have but why not come out and say it or they are foreign policy illiterate, which going on evidence, suggests they are.

The Repulicans also see that peace in the middle east being established by supporting Israeli extremists and Palestinian moderates. That is not going to happen. The US has and has allowed Israeli extremists to undermine Palestinian moderates time and again until most Palestinians don't think their moderates can deliver anything. Why hasn't the US supprted Israeli moderates along with Palestinians moderates and sidelined the extremists? Probably because they don't want peace, they see some biblical revelation being played out here and anyway, a US allie in a region where the US is hated is seen as a positive. Don't they realise a US brokered peace would be a boon to US relations in the Arab world and a way of separating the general Arab population from its support of any extremists who hates America?
