Barack Obama the speechmaker is being rumbled

An interesting (and perhaps contrarian) view of things from the other side of the pond.  And, yes, I particularly like the closing paragraph.

quote:

The fact is that a vote for Mr Obama demands uncritical subservience to the irrational, anti-empirical proposition that the past holds no clues about the future, that promise is wholly detached from experience. The second-greatest story ever told, perhaps.

Ah yes, sometimes it takes a leap of faith, after all's said and done [;)] .

bipolarber -> RE: Barack Obama the speechmaker is being rumbled (9/12/2008 11:51:23 AM)

After the last eight years, with the Constitution in tatters, the economy in near ruin, unemployment at record levels, the US embroiled in two wars, the lies, the cronyisim, the "administration in constant attack mode"...

The fact that Bush got in trouble a couple months ago because he accidentally told the truth, when he thought the cameras and mikes were off was a pretty telling incident.

Besides, as I recall, weren't you saying just last week that opinions from outside US citizenry are to be discarded? Back when you were attacking kittindesol?
So which is it, CL?

I wouldn't expect anything else from a Rupert Murdoch newspaper.

Exactly, because only his media outlets are biased...  Let's go see what position a non-biased media company like MSNBC has to say, eh?

If you take the time to read Murdoch's newspapers (at least over here), they are more comment than news, they carry his political views, there is no pretence of news. He has reduced a once great establishment newpaper which I had many objections to but could recognize its quality to just another rag.

Sir, you are misinformed.  I have never attacked kittensol, nor do I disregard the opinions of others.

I do, however, find it intriguing when commentary such as "Europe wants Obama to be President of the United States" turns out not to be the universal truism as has been presented in various threads on these discussion boards.

Rightwing money people love America, they want Britain to be the 51st state and they are succeeding. Thanks to British slavish foreign policy, Brits are more or less Americans with no rights. Britain is willing to extradict its citizens to America without reciprocation. That's how much the British establishment bends over to be fucked by the US right. This is what pisses me off about a piece of crap like Murdoch owning British newspapers, no other country in Europe would allow it but the British establishment don't mind who it throws overboard to lick US rightwing arse. Its one of the reasons I refuse to live in Britain, I'll only go back when Britain is British again and I can't see that happening any time soon.

Mark,

How do you think I felt, when I was told that not everything on the internet was true?
I am still recovering from that one.

Glad you enjoyed the sarcasm. [;)]

...knew this would happen. i take it you've forgotten your recent tirade on another thread taking all us pesky furriners to task for having the temerity to hold and express an opinion on US domestic politics.
We all remember when you disregarded other peoples opinions on that issue, and even suggested that we had no right to such opinions......odd how soon you forgot......

Indeed, it may prove to be a different kettle of fish, we once again imperiously invaded a country to bring the enlightenment of democracy to them, and that has never worked in the past, but of course, the surge is 'working'.

Rather like someone who has voted with the Republican party anywhere from 80-95% of the time concluding and crowing that he is a maverick out to change the status quo.

This fuckin' guy, this wizard, this maverick, this bull in a china shop, this schismatic..........now there is some real change.

Did you hear about how Barack Obama wants to have sex education in kindergarten, and called Sarah Palin a pig? Did you hear about how Ms. Palin told Congress, "Thanks, but no thanks" when it wanted to buy Alaska a Bridge to Nowhere?

These stories have two things in common: they’re all claims recently made by the McCain campaign — and they’re all out-and-out lies.

-----

Word is, the Obama camp is figuring out a way to strike back.

One thing about your author, is he spent no time thinking there might be any legitimacy to the European views he characterized as "patronizing."

Its really, really hard for rational people to see a political party do such a bad job on foreign affairs, economics, energy, and transportation policies --- and then go on and get reelected.

Why would any rational person want more of the same? McCain has not dissented or been any kind of "maverick" leader in any sphere listed above.

Bipoler, so you think voting for a *Socialist* will take care of all those problems?
Hey! Here's an idea, let's just take it to the next step and vote for a *Communist!*

NumberSix -> RE: Barack Obama the speechmaker is being rumbled (9/12/2008 3:31:02 PM)

Yanno, this country could stand a few communists.  They haven't done anything to hurt us yet.

Murdoch...though a piece of crap he may be, is an Australian piece of crap....now back to our thread.

Your astuteness is showing, don't let it happen again, wear shorter skirts and no panties.

Yanno, that's the way it is with americans, anyone with an accent is either a limey. or somebody we are going to go to war with real soon, or from deliverance, usa.

At least that scenario is something we can agree upon.  [8D]
