I do hope he'll be alright.  Hopefully it's something common like a simple upper resp. infection.  He looks about the age where that's really common.  And with those, cats tend to not eat or drink anything, as, they can't smell it.  I'm sure the vet will take good care of the lil puffball and get him back to being evil again in no time. :)

How wonderful for you guys~

I cant wait till after the wedding and all the moving and settling is done. We will be getting 2 baby kitties ourselves. He knows that I cannot be catless for long. Yours is a doll....so sweet looking.

May you have many years of joy and fun with him!

I really don't feel so bad with the four cats now :)  the new addition is really cute and it was great to see a picture of Cookie, Akasha misses her play-date buddy, I told Rob he should bring her up when he comes to visit but I'm not sure everyone will survive the pandamonioum of cats and dogs everywhere[:D]

CONGRATULATIONS!!  I'm ESPECIALLY happy to read that you adopted a rescue kitty and NOT from a breeder![sm=cheering.gif][sm=cute.gif][sm=cheerleader.gif]

Oh Moon...

Good luck! lol, little lovable monsters.

soul2share -> RE: Newest Member of the Family (9/15/2008 7:52:08 AM)

All of our cats have been rescues.....gotten from neighbors who didn't have the sense enough to spay their cats, Idiots!!!  My two younger boys are garage sale kitties......we took all four of them, found homes for two, and I kept the other two....I had just lost my dog, and KB was heartbroken, so they filled the gap he left behind.

I hope the little guy is ok......

Well, our newest member of the family is spending the night at the vet tonight.  He was not doing very well and we called the rescue center that he came from and they made an emergency call to the vet.  He is dehydrated, not very active and we couldn't get him to eat very much at all.  The vet didn't seem too worried; she is keeping him over night to pump him full of fluids and we can pick him back up tomorrow morning.

Hopefully, we will have our fearless little kitty back soon and full of life.

Knight's Kyra

Kyra, sorry to hear about the baby :((
Go back to the pet store & buy some KMR (powdered milk for kittens) and ask the vet for a syringe. You may have to give the baby some fluids when she gets home and that's a purrrfect substitute for mother's milk. I give it to my new rescues all of the time to fatten them up :)  Hopefully she'll be drinking it on her own soon.  Now, make sure you get the KMR and not the 2nd Step powdered milk. That's good stuff too but it's for older kittens.

**Eta at the pet store, also buy some Eukanuba kitten food. That's high in protein and a very good food for rescue kittens. I'm not sure if they have wet food but they def. have dry food. Get some wet kitten food also (IAMS in the purple can) and mix it w/the KMR & feed her w/the syringe. I've done that before too. Very effective**

KMR saved a newborn kitten that some bozo dropped off here. It is awesome stuff...

All of the cats and the dog have been rescues or SPCA bought.

There are so many that are abandoned, why go to a breeder and pay so much more for a pet to love.

Knight's Alandra

P.S.   it is a little harder to find rescue fish...*grins*.... those we buy at the pet store.

kyraofMists -> RE: Newest Member of the Family (9/15/2008 10:38:36 AM)

I used KMR with Loki when I found him.  He was found in a barn and his eyes had just opened.  He was such a tiny thing; he could curl up in the palm of my hand.  Now he is absolutely huge.

Finding KMR specifically will be tough here in Northern Alberta, but we can get something similar at the vets when we pick him up.

We appreciate all the thoughts and well wishes.

You'd be surprised ;(
My foster kitten, Polly, has to wait until next week to be spayed because the rescue group's vet has been doing nothing but spaying/neutering puppies rescued from a puppy mill last week.

kyraofMists -> RE: Newest Member of the Family (9/16/2008 6:49:09 PM)

Update - Our new little guy is still at the vet's office.  He has a virus infection, but he is doing better.  The vet said that he is eating and drinking now, but she wanted to keep him one more day.

It seems that he gave the virus to our male siamese.  He has not been eating much, but the vet said that it will pass in about 48 hours.  Hopefully, none of the other cats get sick.

Kyra.. glad to hear Thor is doing better..

two of yours look like mine.. it took me a moment of wondering how you'd gotten hold of their pics!! LOL

KnightofMists -> RE: Newest Member of the Family (9/18/2008 4:12:54 PM)

well.. most days are good days... but then you have a day that makes you sit up and take notice of things.

Thor has spent the past several days with the Vet.  After alot of effort and treatment... it was not meant to be.  His health is such that he was not responding to the various treatments and infact was getting worse.  It was time to end the suffering when the hope was lost for him to recover.  We said goodbye to him today with a few tears.

GreedyTop -> RE: Newest Member of the Family (9/18/2008 4:15:03 PM)

aww... *hugs to you all*

lilsubl -> RE: Newest Member of the Family (9/18/2008 4:24:31 PM)

oh!!  i'm sooo sorry to hear that he didn't make it...poor little tyke...but god bless you that you took him in & got him good care...i'm not sure i've had anything other than rescued animals my whole life.....

kyraofMists -> RE: Newest Member of the Family (9/18/2008 5:44:28 PM)

It has been a very sad day for us; he was only here a few short days, but he was part of the family.

I can't say enough about the Prairie Animal Rescue Society.  They did not hesitate to give us assistance in helping to find a vet on Sunday and they took care of the entire vet bill.  They supported our decision to end his suffering and have offered to refund our adoption fee.  To them, their responsibility did not end once he was out their door and they have earned the support of our family.

We appreciate all the kind words and thoughts people have shared with us; our fearless little golden kitty will be missed.

Knight's Kyra

That has got to be the hardest decision to make......you have great courage in being able to let him go.  It doesn't take long for them to get into your heart, does it?

bamabbwsub -> RE: Newest Member of the Family (9/18/2008 5:50:53 PM)

~FR~

I am so sorry to hear about Thor.  At least you took him in, gave him excellent care, and most importantly...loved him 'till the end.

Honestly... It was a rather easy decision for me....... It just was very hard to do.

Knowing what the right thing is... is not the same as Doing the right thing.
