WASHINGTON - Alan Greenspan says the country can't afford tax cuts of the magnitude proposed by Republican presidential contender John McCain — at least not without a corresponding reduction in government spending.

The statement coincides with my opinion that the only people in the republican party who can tell the truth are the Libertarians.   Since McCain has revealed himself to be anti Green  by picking Palin, the only candidate who has Green credentials is a Democrat.  As Friedman reported after the republican convention, if you care anything about environmental issues, your vote belongs to the Democratic party.  So I will vote for a Democrat while still believing that Greenspan walks on water and should have been someone's vice presidential pick despite his age.  What a campaign.

If you had the opportunity to see the ABC Sunday program with Stephenopoulos (sic), you would have seen  Alan Greespan holding forth on the threat of Lehman Brothers going under.  The scary part is that Greenspan says that the situation (the country) can be saved if the politicians plan their strategy very carefully.  Good luck.

What will the Republican party do in a climate "tax cuts don't fix the problem?"

Everyone seems to ignore the second part of the statement.

"at least not without a corresponding reduction in government spending. "

McCain has already specified and had a consistant record that spending cuts are part of his adgenda. Problem is that the media and the Democrats have not bothered to ask the obvious question. Mostly because they don't want to focus the debate on the fact that they have NO spending cuts other than military spending planned. What will McCain cut??? Well so far he's been able to confine his confirmed spending cuts to earmarks. But even I am not believing that those are the only cuts he intends to make.

Want to make the race better? then somebody needs to ask him specificly what he intends to cut toher than earmarks.

I would call McBush`s tax-cuts for millionaires,... an "earmark".

They are the same in every respect.

Benefiting a very few, at the expense of us all.

Payed for with moneys we don`t have,there for financed by borrowing the money from China/Saudi Arabia.

Only rich/connecting people getting access to lawmakers for their pork.

Etc.,etc.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Does it really make sence to go into debt,to give rich people bigger tax-cuts,when it`s pretty obvious that the economy is not benefitting from them.And knowing we all(the taxpayers)will foot that bill.
Since Reagan, Republican Presidents have done nothing but expand the Federal Government. The track record suggests you are pipe dreaming.
McCain believes in imperial jollies and is going to get tough with every mother fucker that doesn't tow the line...er ..I mean... doesn't have civilized values. At least that is what he said on European TV when answering a question about certain uncivilized countries.
Not many cuts going to happen there then.
