Scientists already think the destruction of the rain forests are effecting north American rainfall, hence the droughts in certain areas. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't but if they are, beef will be off the menu for a long time to come.

As for the overall theme of this thread- there is some truth to the idea that eating less meat is easier on the planet, as a whole- although the direct impact of this on the climate system is dubious at best. Every time you move up a level on a food chain (ie, from crops to cows) there's about a 90% loss of biomass. Therefore, it's possible to produce a lot more food from plants than from animals. This becomes obvious if looked at intuitively- there's a reason that protein intake is correlated with income- it's energetically (and therefore economically) much easier to support a large population on simple staple crops (grains/rice/potatoes). This is also the reason that primary consumers (herbivores) are used as food sources, while secondary consumers (carnivores) are not (at least terrestrial ones). All of that said, cows are tasty animals, and I don't plan to give them up any time soon. On the list of global environmental problems, this one's pretty near the bottom.

And I guess Greenland and Iceland were named out of humor? Scientists at an observatory in Tuscon, AZ have documented the temperature changes on Neptune since the '70's . That temperature chart looks amazingly similar to Earth's. The Earth has been cooling for roughly 10 years now, ask the Germans. The sun is cooler at present. Greenhouse emissions continue to rise. HMMMMM! Oh, make my steak medium well and with a plat of blue cheese.

Are you talking about the Georgian military murdering Russian citizens which provoked the Russian response? If you have been reading my responses in other threads I stated, if Georgians don't want to be killed, don't kill Russians in the first place. The US politicians seems to be the only politicians in the western world that don't accept that it was a Georgian attack on Russian civilians that started the conflict.
