      No, Firm.  Really.  It's ok.  You see, McCain is a Republican.  They're baa-aaad.  Standard rules of ethical behavior don't apply when you're dealing with them.

It was funny.Some people need to get a sense of humor.

Hey,I`ll apologize for that(on behalf of the left) when you and Firm apologize for the right-wingy trash,like Obama`s a Muslim or an America hater,or Rush`s references to him as "the magic negro" or a "halfrican".

Til then,enjoy.

A drawing of Bush pissing on the constitution would also be apropos.

<fast reply>

If I read correctly, the Atlantic published only the cover photo. So why are we blaming it, much less the entire "intelligentsia," for the work of a single person?

The blogger's contention that the Atlantic's editors ran the red "Adultery" teaser as a slight to McCain strikes me as a stretch.

Because it serves a political purpose to use the platform of the supposedly left-wing liberal media to whine about its bias? Hitler used a similiar trick: complained about democracy by using the democratic platform to get elected, only to shut it down once in power.

It's devious, but no longer brilliant. Been done ad nauseam.

You mean there are lefties who do have a sense of humor?!

P.S. Wasn't the Obama cover the New Yorker? Gotta keep these effete mags straight!

TheHeretic -> RE: Political Porno ... (9/14/2008 7:26:13 PM)

       You're absolutely right, DC.  It was the New Yorker...  Damn elitist, easterners.  Who can keep 'em straight?

 Obviously, not you [&:] .

I think it's indicative of an attitude of many on the left, especially of the ones who consider themselves the "brain trust" of culture and Western civilization. It is an attitude in which morality can be bent to the political desires, and justifies any actions in pursuit of a so-called "higher good".

Just look at kittin. No insult intended, but she is a bright, intelligent, and witty individual, who has admitted that she will say or do anything to further her political goals.

I think such an attitude is a poison in the soul of our culture.

But the complaints about the "rats" ads were perfectly legitimate?

And it's rampant on the right.

Square one.

It's rampant in humanity.

However, the basic conservative, pro-religious belief systems - which are much more common in the "right's intelligentsia" - condemn it as a failing.

On the left it is often celebrated as "just" and "honorable".

Ah, well ... back to the "Random Stupidity" dumping ground for unfavored threads ...

Interesting counterpoint to the Atlantic Mags blowby ...

I think the two are different.

The "Adultery" tag had a legitimate purpose (to catch a potential buyer's attention) independent of whatever the cover story was. Magazines use tags like that all the time.

The insertion of the word "RATS" into a political ad was--well, honestly, I don't know what they were attempting to do.

Firm, I'll give you a dollar for every left-wing voice you find that describes the Greenberg photo-manipulations as "just" or "honorable."

Ok, "deserved" or "acceptable".

Few would admit it in public, that didn't consist of other like-minded people.

It's kinda like how Obama talks to the unwashed masses about how religious he is, and how much he supports guns, and then in California, talks dirty about them, saying ... "they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

It's a sense of "we are better than them", a smug, self-righteous sense of unwarranted superiority such as Charlie Gibson displayed in his interview with Palin, and that this woman displayed in her utter disregard for "acceptable moral behavior".

It's primarily the left leaning, self-styled "intelligentsia" that is this way.  I'm not talking about the average Democrat and specifically not about you (but there are a couple of such on this board).

dcnovice -> RE: Political Porno ... (9/16/2008 12:51:46 PM)

But doesn't the right have its own superiority complex? All that talk about "decent people" and "family values," for instance?

And the right has its own regional slurs. Way back when, Phil Gramm said he wished he could balance the budget at the expense of New York, Massachusetts, and California. (No link, alas.) And "San Francisco" serves Republicans almost as an expletive.
