So the whole online personal thing is completely new to me. I was just wondering what would you consider a good opening and closing for the emails?

Good evening, morning, afternoon [whatever], whomever; Thank You for Your time, aspiringmuse.

TemptingNviceSub -> RE: first couple of messages... (9/14/2008 9:38:23 PM)

I usually go for using their whole screen name, then my e-mail content and close with Best/Tempting or...take care/Tempting...or Byeee/Tempting..depends on tone of e-mail or my mood as to what I will use...There is no right or wrong..just be you...Tempting

Use common sense.

Imagine you're talking to a woman face to face in person, just because it's on line doesn't mean you need to act a special way.

"Hello, how are you? I liked your profile because of blah blah blah. I think we have blah blah and blah in common. I saw you have an interest in blah blah blah, sounds very fascinating! I personally like blah. I'm contacting you to converse and perhaps see if we click and go from there. I hope you agree and am eagerly awaiting a reply. If I am not what catches fancy, good luck in your search."

Something like that, of course in your own words and unique to the situation.

Then again there are people who have certain "rules" about how they wanted to be contacted...but I don't pay attention to people like that. Read profiles if you want to know the person and what they'll like.

Hi aspiringmuse,
I too love building connections and meeting people. I also am a huge fan of music and wish I could make my living through it.
A few sentences about who I am and what I'm seeking, without being pushy or obscene.
~Katie978, half of Exkat

That's pretty much my typical e-mail. I suggest that you run your profile through a spell-check, the better to attract the grammar nazis among us. Good luck!

Hello. Have a nice day. In between try not to ask for a phone number or an address. Try posting a pic. If it of yourself it might help more.

I'm a sucker for something like this....
Hi.  Yadda yadda yadda.  Yadda yadda yadda.  Blah blah blah makes me hard.

Yeah.  That works for me.  YMMV.

As you can see Alieen watches to much Stienfeld.

so long as it's not one of those cut and paste jobbies with differing fonts - or quotes not relating to the person you are messaging...

man they annoy me!

kiwisub12 -> RE: first couple of messages... (9/15/2008 2:23:35 PM)

something a bit more than "Hi - do you yahoo?"     which is what my last couple of cmessages have been.    More than one sentence, and less than an essay is good, and ordinary politeness would be optimal for me.   smiling is good too. [:D]

metalmiss -> RE: first couple of messages... (9/15/2008 2:27:33 PM)

When i get an email, it's not so much what is said, but how it is said, what it tells me about them.. To get my attention there has to be enough written to actually qualify as having a beginning and an end.. No one liners and no cut and paste jobs..

If they can show some imagination far outside the realms of discussing play and sex.. i'll almost certainly respond.. If they can keep it up.. i'll think it a minor miracle.. Doesn't happen often.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: first couple of messages... (9/15/2008 2:35:34 PM)

what i wouldn't want to receive in the first couple of messages:

5. long run-on paragraphs sans punctuation and breaks or written in CAPS in which the sender writes the long version of his life story. when that happens, i end up reading a couple of lines and then deleting without a response ...my brain hurts when i receive messages all in CAPS.

4. do you have yahoo/msn? until i'm comfortable and know the person better, they're not getting my yahoo/msn ids

3.  hi (and nothing else) - automatic deletion

2.  so what are you looking for in a master/daddy/etc? obviously since the person didn't read my profile, my reply back to them won't be pretty.

1. on your knees now, bitch and suck my cock / you're so fat messages

Yours or theirs?

aspiringmuse -> RE: first couple of messages... (9/15/2008 5:37:18 PM)

Yea so thanks a lot. I get the general idea but it doesn't seem to be at all like in person but more like a letter where you ask a few questions and tell somethings about yourself. Oh and just to clarify i was asking what would be a good email to give to someone...

Missokyst -> RE: first couple of messages... (9/15/2008 6:21:35 PM)

Normal greetings are fine for me.  Both for introductions and exits.  The only thing that really makes me want to pull my brain out through my nose and scrub it, is the phrase "I wish you well" as a closing.

MidMichCowboy -> RE: first couple of messages... (9/15/2008 7:05:41 PM)

Just put some meat or real emotion in the letter.

Don't play act, don't fantasize,

Be real ... get to know the person first. Show some of who you really are.

But then what do I know ... I'm just a damn ole cowboy.

littleone35 -> RE: first couple of messages... (9/16/2008 7:57:24 AM)

I usually just end with my screen name.  Good thing i reply to one liners because my Master's firsr msg to me was "Hi, so where in NY do you live" and signed it  with his screen name just like i do.  Maybe i am a bad person but i usually don't put a closing.  Usually not until i know sombody better.  Now when i write to Master i sign it kisses and hugs.
