Jumping off cliffs straight into the mouths of crocodiles comes to mind, for some odd reason [&:] .

I can't understand why someone is complaining about a crappy little power outage. We live thru a lot of them here in Michigan.

LaTigresse -> RE: Obama doesn't get it. (9/17/2008 6:20:54 AM)

Yeah, I was kinda wondering about that myself. If you live here, in rural Iowa, and do not have a back up generator and back up heat source........shame on you.

We lose power constantly. Especially during the winter storms.

Because they are suffering.  You'll probably be whining like a baby when you are inconvenienced.  You'll just play it off to those online that you are the big mountain man survival type who didn't even slow down.
Try having a bit of compassion for people who are in need.  Thats what real humans do.

This has been called 'grasping at straws' and coming up empty handed with a useless comparison of press releases.

All these hobbies suck, but I heard they were good for the nerves, and well, Obama-obsessed nervewrecks could do with a little relaxation [8D] .

I suppose the same could be said for those suffering from Post-Palin-Syndrome... some deep breathing and meditation might come in handy. [8D]

Obama doesn't get it.

Yes he does!

He got $112k, coming soon from your 'bail out' tax dollars, from the good folks at Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. I am going to change my company's business plan. I want to get on this rewarding failure wave permeating the US, especially if Senator Obama wins and failure will be a key qualifier for getting government money.

Yup - The man sure does represent 'Change'. What a great set up Fred & Fannie had. 100% of the risk taken by US Taxpayers; while 100% of the profits go to the executives running it. With their spare 'Change' they pay for lobbyists to visit the Senators and Congressmen who 'regulate' them. I heard the last 'audit' was conducted on a private beach on Necker Island.

John McCain received $16,400; Senator Biden $500. (GOOD FOR HIM!). As a governor Palin didn't qualify for this particular gravy train.

Thadius -> RE: Obama doesn't get it. (9/17/2008 10:37:59 AM)

Merc,

Just make sure that you have some money to donate, that seems to be a key to getting certain folks to take up your cause.  I was surprised to actually see McCain receive that much from them, he tried passing a law in 2005 that toasted them pretty good.  Speaking of which, it would be intersting to see the donations from MBNA to the folks running.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Obama doesn't get it. (9/17/2008 11:19:31 AM)

I came to understand the 'why' that I was constantly searching for by spending more time than I'd like to think about on a site called "Open Secrets". It takes information from the public record and consolidates it. You can understand why a 'Bridge to Nowhere' was considered if you look at the PAC money provided by Alaskan road construction companies.

Think about it, the Presidency is a very visible position. Once there, you can't take a trip fact finding trip to Tokyo paid for by the US Beef industry lobbyists to check out Kobi cattle production. A Congressman doesn't have that problem, and as tip money gets $10k to support a high tariff on imported beef. Name the industry and it has a lobbyist, most have 1000's.

This fact from the site points to the impossibility of change. The number 3, actually #2 since 'Other' represents the second highest PAC money total, is Lawyers and Lobbyists. They donated $175 Million to various campaigns. 74% of which went to Democratic candidates. Compared to the Banking industry's $311 Million having a 51%/49% split favoring Republicans. Source: http://www.opensecrets.org/overview/sectors.php

Unless there is a source prepared to pony up replacement money - Lawyers, and their candidates, will be running the country for the foreseeable future.

It is the 'smoking gun' for just about ever special interest law being passed to the detriment of the majority of US taxpayers. Follow the money - here's the source: http://www.opensecrets.org/

To your question regarding the MBNA (There are a few PACS they manage, I picked MBNA - America): Top recipient was President Bush; $356,350.
Congress:

House
Oxley, Michael G
$71,500

House
Castle, Michael N
$57,250

Senate
Biden, Joseph R Jr
$56,625

Senate
Carper, Tom
$51,547
(Source: http://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/toprecips.php?id=D000000114&type=P&sort=A&cycle=2004 )

I warn you, don't go poking around on that site. It is VERY disheartening to discover the truth about Bills that pass, and we pay for, in Congress. Sure, every four years they play this game where we get to attack each other about who is supporting the worst candidate for the Presidency. Meanwhile-ALL the candidates, and their votes, have been bought and paid.

It's why I say you can only make a statement by voting 'NO' to anyone running as an incumbent. They do not represent you. There is only one political party - PAC; representing 100% of the Congress, as well as the Presidency, and by the titular 'approval' process the Supreme Court as well.

Thadius -> RE: Obama doesn't get it. (9/17/2008 11:27:56 AM)

I have been nosing around there for quite some time.  I even posted many of those stats and figures here.  For some reason that stuff gets ignored because one politician is claiming that the other one is being run by the lobbies of big corporations.

In particular going back to the Freddie and Fannie points you raised, it has become a place for old Dems to go and retire.  Too, one of the candidates has a person responsible for that on their staff as an advisor.  I will leave the who and why up to those that are interested in knowing the truth to find out.

I asked the MBNA question in a rhetorical sense, just to point at an industry.  The one thing you won't find there is that Biden's son actually is or was a consultant for that particular company, and they were one of the big pushers for the bankruptcy law changes.  Do a search for "Biden ties Credit Companies" the results may or may not surprise you.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, I do agree with the points you make.

As always,
Thadius

Mercnbeth -> RE: Obama doesn't get it. (9/17/2008 11:57:10 AM)

I'm in the Banking industry. Delaware is mortgaged by the Banking industry with a 2nd mortgage provided by Dupont. I know of very few, none of the top of my head, Financial institutions NOT Incorporated in Delaware. However, that was a fact long before Biden.

With your interest in Biden and MBNA you should find this very interesting. Another thing the VP candidate shares with his partner is the way he uses 'voodoo' economics to fund the purchase of his home. Doubt anyone but you will look at this, but it points out that not all the benefits received are in the form of cash. http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ZDU4OTdhMTFhN2YwZTY3MmMzNGFhYzc3ODdhOTA0ZjQ=

Last thing that that site brought to my attention this last visit. Lawyers and Lobbyists donated $175 Million to various campaigns. 74% of which went to Democratic candidates. Senators Obama and Biden are both lawyers - coincidence?

Who was the last Democratic candidate for President who was NOT a lawyer?

Thadius -> RE: Obama doesn't get it. (9/17/2008 12:15:40 PM)

Thanks for the link it falls completely in line with other articles I have read.  It seems to stay away from the legislation that Biden produced and supported, but it shows an interesting pattern.  The same type of pattern can be seen at the top of the ticket, just from a different cash cow.
