This is all part of the same fruitless war.

Which war is that?  The war declared on the West by Al-Qaeda operatives (remember it was off the coast of Yemen in 2000 that the U.S.S Cole had that huge hole blasted in it) or the war after 9/11?

I don't know if you have a typical American view but America has been interfering in the middle east since 1953 when they with the British helped overthrow  a democratic Iranian government. The US has backed middle east dictatorships who have cruelly subjugated their own people, all for the access to someone elses oil. The idea that this war started with an unprovoked attack on the US is ludicrous.

Bad news, oh well, what's new [>:] ...

Irishknight -> RE: Attack on US Embassy in Yemen (9/17/2008 5:36:40 AM)

MC, you seem to be such a hater of the US.  While there is much about this country I want to see changed, there is also a great deal right about it.  I wonder why it is that you never seem to point out anything positive about the US .. or your own country of origin for that matter.
Truth be told, this war has nothing to do with what you spoke of.  We're fighting a bunch of people who are still trying to fight the damned crusades.  They want to punish people for something that none of us did or were alive to do.  It truthfully has nothing to do with British policy or American policies.  Its just because we exist.

pahunkboy -> RE: Attack on US Embassy in Yemen (9/17/2008 6:14:06 AM)

consider police science.

A victim in crime is, according to police science... is an aggressor.

Ill give you a dollar for every person in my zip code that could ID Yemen on a blank map.

Maybe Yemen would prefer to attend to their own affairs.

But then dont get me started on states rights.  Which can not happen via outsourcing national sovereignty.

Our supermodels bare their tits and in Bali people gyrate too wildly in nightclubs, that's all the reason al-Qaeda needs to kill millions.

Absolutely nothing more.

I don't hate America but historical western and American interference in the middle east is what caused the radicalisation of Islam and the rise in terrorism. That is a fact accepted by just about every respected, objective historian.

We sure did help to overthrow the Iranian government in 1953.  I don't see what that has to do with Al Qaida.  They despise Shiites as much as they despise the West.  I don't know why you seem to have this view that they would all be joining hands and living in peace if it wasn't for us evil Westerners.

I guess we should just allow the extremists to manipulate politics there instead of us.  It would be great to constantly be under the threat of having our energy supplies shut off at the whim of the crazies, wouldn't it?

You should count the deaths the west has caused, that is the otherside of the equation. It seems to me that many Americans avoid looking in the mirror because they know they won't like what they see. There are many Europeans of the same ilk. Until the west starts looking in the mirror and accepts the west's responsibility in the current situation, the west won't have the right tactics to start separating the host populations from the terrorists.

There are enough Americans on these boards that have said they would take up arms against anyone that tried to interfer in their country. Why should you think other peoples would think differently?

Outsiders interfere with our country all the time.  Lobbyists from every country imaginable fill the suburbs around Washington.  Our bonds are held largely by the Chinese and Arabs.  We have had foreign corporations operating on our soil for 100 years.  I can think of two manufacturing plants in my own town that are owned by foreign corporations.  I know a lot of people aren't fond of this, but we aren't crashing planes into building overseas or driving truck bombs into foreign embassies here.  Our crazies make a lot of noise, but they don't have any real influence.

That is to do with free markets which the US has tried its hardest to get everyone in the world to believe in. You don't have foreign troops on your soil and no one is supporting a dictatorship in Washington the oppresses you.

Imagine if the West had left the Islamic extremists alone all along.

Never formed a crusade, never sent a navy to defeat the Barbary pirates...

Do you think meatcleaver would today be living in meatcleaver heaven?

Sanity, with each post you just reinforce the fact that you know nothing about the history of the middle east.

If it's important for you to you feel that way, meatcleaver, then keep saying it to yourself over and over and eventually you may come to believe it.
