Hey folks, riddle me this:
Why would someone delete an e-mail they had not read?
I'm not talking about getting a message from someone you don't like or is stalking you or anything weird like that.

I'm talking about a friendly Hello to someone you don't know.  Seems to me that common courtesy says you should at least see what was written...

Any thoughts?

~Dave

I dunno, man. Why is there air? Why are spheres round? Why is pi exactly 3.1415928.....and so on. Why are Republicans 99.999% white? Why is Earth stuck way out here on the edge of the galaxy, instead of at the center, where all the real action is? Why do men have nipples? Why does the Govenrment steal from the poor, and give to the rich? Why are two "ls (ll)" pronounced like a "y" in Spanish? And what the hell is this letter ß?

This is all really mysterious stuff. I leave it up to the FSM (pbuh/h/it).

They looked at your profile and decided not to converse with you.

Your expectations of "common courtesy" are yours alone on the internet.  Expect all manner of response (or none), focus on the ones that do meet your courtesy criteria, and you'll find it a more positive experience.

i am not 100% on how this works but if people have thier mail filters on it is posible they never actually recieve your message on thier inbox

If they HAD looked at it, you would be on the board complaining about them not giving you the common curtesy of sending you a note back.

My guess is you got sent to the bulkmail folder- weeded out by gender, age, whatever.

There is no such thing as common courtesy on here
There is nothing saying someone has to read email, or respond.
They may have looked at your profile and decided they didnt want to talk to you. They may  have done it accidentally. They may have filtered you into their junk mail and you were deleted in a cleanup effort.

Why waste time worrying about why someone didnt read your mail, or didnt respond.. or anything else they didnt do. Do you really want to pursue someone who doesnt want to be bothered with you?

I don’t see this as just some ‘common curtsey’ issue: no one is entitle to attention and/or affections.  If it happens, that’s that.  Move on, they did.

It is what it is...

Why would I hang up on a telemarketer?
Why would someone chose not to spend a long, boring flight in a fascinating conversation getting to know yours truly, when I made nothing but polite overtures?
When I approach someone completely uninvited, I accept that they have the right to reject. In that case, rudeness involves deliberate, pointed meanness, not just simple, silent rejection.
I approach people constantly, ( I LIKE people) - in the grocery line, the laundry mat, the airplane. However, if they chose to ignore me, to make a polite excuse or to simply saying, 'I'm sorry, I was busy thinking' = or whatever - i do not take offense. How is that rude? I approached them unsolicited. HOw could i possibly think they OWE me a certian amount of time and attention, no matter how small?

Because they're not interested in YOU.

Tough concept, eh?
