It's nice to seeo this as a post that is being taken seriously...makes me feel less weird...it's definitely wolf for me, and it's fairly amusing when reflecting upon it [my girl knows i'm in a more sadistic/sexual mood from growling and sniffing at her upon occasion...she says she always looks forward to it.]

I have not read all of the posts. It often happens in BDSM that all sides discover parts of themselves which had before been hidden. I speak here particularly of our shadow, that unsavory side of ourselves that we had up till then remained willfully ignorant of. In BDSM remaining ignorant of ourselves gets to be increasingly difficult as we progress.

As for control, we can control our dark side as much as we can control the rest of us, which is not much. For the most part control is an illusion. We can become initiatives, we can train ourselves to put ourselves in the emotional and spiritual state where we make the best decisions, but we are never in control. We never know enough about ourselves and our experiences as we live them to be able to control them. That we are in control of ourselves  is a social myth that is false, one that BDSM bought hook line and sinker. We can sometimes control the parts of ourselves that we are aware of, and that is as far as that goes.

Doms casts a spell of the illusion of control over the sub, encourages the sub to buy into it, but the wise Dom never forgets that it is an illusion. I like to think of it as the one generating it must never make the mistake of taking the PR as reality, but good PR works.

greetings,
one is not sure if this is a subject already tackled.... one has found that during intense bdsm play, there is a 'beast' which seeks release from inside her. she only found this one other instance besides bdsm play and that was long ago during the sexual act. Now it is happening here on the cross at times and the more intense the scene, the more likely it is to emerge.
she wonder if others played with, have found this and also if Dominants have found that They have Beasts inside Themselves which appear during those momentes as well?
buffy had hoped that the beast within her was a wolf as Some of her best and dearest Friends, are Wolves (meant in a most respectful and good way to say this)..... but buffy is not a wolf (dangit), she is a wildcat and it seem that the type of animal is not a choice, at least for her.
That was the other part of the question also..... do Tthose who find there is a 'beast' inside which comes out during scenes, find that Tthey have little, if any, control over what kind of beast emerges?
respectfully,
buffy, whose inquiring mind wish to know

While I know that there is a "beast" within me that is awakened by play, I do not identify it as any specific "animal" but rather as a primal, back-to-basics force.  I also have had the courage to look at it and see that there are parts of it that aren't alllllllllll that pretty.  So, as another has noted on here, I do keep a tight leash on it and let it out only partially to play (think of it like the tigers in the circus that go from their smaller cage to a bigger one...more freedom and they can get up to a lot more...........mischief...but they are still caged.

The intensity of the scene and the reactions of my partner have determined how big that bigger cage is within which the "animal" is allowed to roam.

And yes, many people find they associate with specific animals. Bears, wolves, horses, cats, etc.

That's cute that everyone imagines they have a noble or savage beast within. I wonder why nobody ever finds their inner possum, skunk or squirrel?

Nice.

I shocked a sub when mine was released once. According to him, I'm reptilian. If you can believe him, I was writhing like a snake, and my hazel eyes literally turned gold and glittered. It scared the hell out of him, and trust became an issue. Oh well...

Now I am put in mind of the 'lion and snake' games I used to play with a friend. I would find meeting your internal reptile fascinating.

I had an internal lion at one point, but he's either gone or deeply buried now. I miss him.

This subject is very well depicted in Greek Mythology in the guise of Heracles (Hercules in Roman) when he has to go into the cave and defeat the Nemean Lion as one of his 12 Arduous tasks set by the gods (Zeus bore Heracles as his son from another lady, he was promiscuous that way, his wife Hera got jealous, drove Heracles mad and he killed his wife and child and for forgiveness he was tasked with the 12 Arduous tasks!! phew!) .

The Cave is the dark sub-concious place inside of us, the Lion is the primal beast that lives on instinct, Heracles has to defeat the Lion but by doing so he has the Lions protection, the kind of invincibility the beast provides if controlled.

We all have this and sometimes under duress it will rear its head, we have the concious mind to guide it.

I have experienced what I would certainly refer to as "Primal", and I am sure if thought about could find certain behavior in common with a specific animal.
Very specific animalistic experiences and behavior I have had , have not been within a BDSM context or environment.

as my profile name indicates, i identify strongly with the tiger. S/some are confused by that as i am a submissive female. i am VERY submissive, but can become animalistic when prompted. i did not seek out this "inner animal" as with the OP, it just came out one day. to deny it's exisitance would be like denying that i am female. so i embrace both.
