It seems we all seek change in daily lives, be it the economy, politics, law enforcement etc. We all seek a change for the better, but change can mean anything, and what can be thought to be positive at first, quickly becomes negative for a great many people, if not for all those that sought change in the first place. Is not change really chance ? Change can be the very devil.

So, is it better the life we have, or the devil we don't know ?

change is hard in many situations. i've just gone through 2 pretty major changes in my life that i thought would do me in, they've both turned out to be very positive for me and i'm happy about them now.

i do think perspective and "risk management" play a big part in making changes. nobody i know can predict the future, all we can do is make the most educated choices we can. but sometimes change isn't a choice...sometimes it's a variable. we can't always plan for changes, all we can do is deal with them best we can.

Reactionary change is very scary, and with the financial situation the world is in, that potential is getting larger all the time. In the end the economy is everybodies number one issue at some point in a downturn, at that point they will accept any stop measure that will simply put food on the plate. This is why I tire, of lesser issues, that get prattled on all the time, as if those things can't wait until a more appropriate time in the future to be hammered out, and argued forever.

Obama style change, I don't view as change at all. He doesn't scare me, I already know what he thinks. It's the fact that in 24 hours from now, under the right conditions the world could be on it's knees and paralyzed, that scares the shit out of me. What scares the crap out of me is seeing the Fed dumping huge sums of poofed into existance new money into a overleveraged financial system, and the joints are still creeking. What scares me is this bag of dog food I just bought that costs the same as a bag about two weeks ago, but is a 1/4 lighter(repackaged). Inflation is starting even at Wal-Mart. Oh, and the russian economy on the verge of collapse, and their new bravado scares me, revolution seems like a possibility, if things don't recover.

Anyway, the presidential election has lost much interest to me as of late, as the real powers in the world are rearranging. The president can do little at this point other than let the Federal Reserve, and co conspirators mop up the mess they've created. The time to change, was four years ago, as far as the president goes, and I wasn't offered a candidate that wanted any real change. This time around there is little good in either really. Obama, you get bigger government(can't afford it), McCain you get hyper military(can't afford it). No choice, that is appealing.

So, I leave it to all you guys out in the world to decide, I'm throwing my vote away on someone that has zero chance of being elected, but has been pointing out all this boring financial stuff for decades, and the eventual path it would take.

There has been a power shift of war level proportions already, most just haven't realized it.

Maybe they had it wrong, Maybe WWIII would be fought with money, not bombs. This would be the time for a financial attack, if one wanted to pull a financial pearl harbor on us, this would be the time to strike.

I like, used to find change really scary like, back in math class, you know, but then I like, got a job running a cash register at the mall, you know, and like, now its all just nickels dimes and quarters and stuff. So just, like, get a job at the mall, dude, and you'll have this change thing licked in, like, no time.

Change is a constant in the universe. Nothing can stop it. That's why evolution takes place: we are adapting to new enviromental challenges, slowly, over time. It can't be stopped.

IMNSHO, people are often envious of what they do not have in terms of material possessions, wealth and status and are willing to make changes to attain these things. Is the potential outcome worth the potential cost in any of these cases?

I cannot make such a determination for someone else, only for myself.

When we take chances and make changes we definately can fall, fail or be destroyed in the process. I included a bit of symbolism here to go along with your query.

The reason many abused wives are afraid to leave (been there, done that) is because they know they are in a nightmare situation but afraid that if they walk away they could be in for an even bigger nightmare.

Change causes stress - and some Dom/mes purposely create situations with change to test the trust level of a sub/slave. I am often put in situations where I have many new things thrown at me all at once. Limits can be stretched - either gently or roughly - and it can cause a lot of unexpected emotions. Not all are negative, but it may take some time to get it all sorted out in your head afterward.

Knowing that this is part of what is expected of me I try to embrace change, surprises, and new challenges. I have not always handled it perfectly, once failing pretty miserably, but I know that many would find it very uncomfortable. I do not blame them or feel that they are weak. There is comfort in sameness.

An old friend once said, that I would do anything to not have to move.

My mom and brothers like to move... alot of change.

Right now I dont want any change. Things are quite well for me.

The grass isnt greener on the other side... the grass is dead on the other side.

Change is both scary and exhiliarating. Change is one of the things you can count on. Nothing is for sure, rarely do things come with a guarantee. It's better to be proactive than reactive. And self-talk, all of those things we think and tell ourselves need to be positive and uplifting.

The devil we don't know. After all, he'll introduce himself eventually despite our best efforts. Better to step up, shake hands, and learn what manner of devil he is. At least then we have the advantage of having eyes open.

Personally, I have a bit of a hard time with change even in every day life. I certainly am aware it's inevitable and all, it's still just difficult to process for me. I'm quite sure it's all linked into me being the one in charge in my daily life and thus routinely feeling out-of-balance (as discussed on another thread a day or so ago).

Change means I likely have to come up with a new plan to continue to be productive, and that just adds another responsibility I hadn't planned for. I do like it when the machine around here is running smooth and I can focus on pushing though the goals I have already set, rather than having more and more piled on to the stack of tasks to be done.

People often say change is a good thing, and I do often feel better after things get shaken up a bit around here, but even in realizing that, I still dread the next round of change when it comes my way... One would think I would get used to change being introduced and then change wouldn't feel like change anymore because it would become the norm...

Not a lot of bind-blowing analysis here, I know. I'm just typing what I'm thinking at the moment....

I don't like change...at least change outside my control...it is usually never good. I once went to the doctor because I was having trouble lifting my foot..stumbling on stairs and such. I walked out of the office with a diagnosis of ALS a fatal disease with a two year life expectancy...change sucks.. he was wrong but I almost took my own life to spare the family.

We all go through life trying to control our future...then life up and smacks you in the face...it happens to us all...again...change sucks.

In my personal life, I see change as an opportunity for growth, new exciting things... if I can make that happen and the chance of fun and interesting things. In a situation where I have felt stuck or afraid it can be stressful, but with the attitude of acceptance, I find my peace. I do have some sort of input or control into whatever is changing. But in a world view or political situation, where our nation and people are suffering and could suffer more... that is a scary one. I do what I can to withstand whatever happens, but the days do look dark and ominus.

No one likes change....it is unpredictable and therefore frightens most people.

I'll echo this, and add that while change is inevitable (be it good change or not so good change), what we do with it is what is really important.
