"The Bridge To Nowhere"
Even after her claims had been shown to be factually incorrect she persisted in using it in her speeches.

The bigger issue is that people loudly cheer that part of her speech anyway.

Do we need yet another administration who is content to root itself in blatant lies, misrepresentations and denial.

The economy has been in decline and the current administration kept talking about how things were basically good... until they could not deny the truth any longer.
(which has been the ongoing theme for the past 8 yrs).

Yup.

Then you add to her "mythbuilding" the stuff like:

Selling the jet on ebay for a profit.
That Troopergate thingie is nothin' to bother with...
The whole charging of rape victims for the evidence kits
The (some say untrue) checking with a librarian about book banning...
The later firing of that same librarian
The fact that she wants creationisim forced on our kids.
The fact that she is radically anti-women's reproductive rights.
Her last two interviews sounded like stuck records, parrotting phrases like "unfair attack" and "I'm a reformer" nearly endlessly.

She was picked to provide a bump at the convention, to steal the thunder from Obama's 83,000 head crowd at Mile High Stadium. Well, she did that... and proved that she can read off a teleprompter with the best of 'em. But now, as I noted in another thread, that bump is fading fast, and the "thundering herd" of Hillary voters that were supposed to migrate for McCain/Palin, hasn't materialized.

Sure, she's probably energized the religious nutcase vote...

But how is that going to compare with the african american vote, and the youth vote, both of whom know that it's they who are going to get tapped in a draft, to keep us in Iraq for "as long as it takes to achieve victory." (victory to be defined at a later date.)

True.  Problem is Obama, Biden and McCain do the same thing.  It seems to be a politician trait.

So if a person plans on voting for president in November...they have to choose a liar.

The question is, what lies are acceptable?

What worries me is that I think many people underestimate the allure of  "family values"...
and  the focus on that has very insidious  racist undertones.

I would also like to add that Bridge to nowhere that Palin says she does not support but keeps asking the Federal government for funds to build it.   McCain has for me, no matter how explains it took money to stop an investigation into the Lincoln Savings and Loan Company.  He knew what the money was for and did as Keaton asked.  Use his influence to stop an investigation into Keaton use of depositors money for his personal use.  Remember in his campain he had some 20 Lobbyist on his payroll.  McCain be bought and is for the right money.

angelika, I'm glad you brought that site up. fact check has been invaluable to me to get to the bottom of some of this crap. (Like the kindergarden "sex ed" lies.) You'll note that, until very recently, the ratio between McCain's lies and those of Obama were about 5:1... and at no time did Obama ever accuse McCain som something as vile as that kindergarden pedophilia by proxy bullshit. But he, John McCain, "approved that message."

Thadius has a sig line that says we should look at a man's friends, to judge him... I say look at the way a man conducts himself in a heated conflict like this. Too bad we can't have the McCain that was running in 2000... that guy I could have almost voted for. But now we have this evil doppleganger.

McCain is made of fail.

While it's true enough that both sides present information that is slanted toward their side, the Republicans have gone much, much farther than that. The Democrats have presented substantially true information, with a little questionable content. The Republicans have repeatedly crossed the line to presenting substantially false information with only a tiny bit of truth.

Saying they both "do the same thing" is falling for the second part of the Carl Rove-driven strategy of misinformation. The first part is broadcasting false positive statements about themselves and false negative statements about their opponents, and repeating the the lies over and over until a large number of people think they must be true. (2) The second part is complaining that the Democrats aren't telling the truth, so that even those who realize the Republicans are lying start to believe that the other side is just as bad.

Here's a news flash: The Democrats aren't perfectly 100% objectively truthful about absolutely every little thing, but they're not even in the same league as the Republicans when it comes to lying. The prevalence and level of lying by the Bush campaign and administration has been unprecedented; it's been so horrendous that I thought it would never be surpassed. The McCain campaign may already have done that.

It has been my experience living as a human being in this lifetime that we downplay the lies of those we like.

Because if we admitted they lie just as much we would have to address that fact.  Something that nobody wants to
have to do.
