bipolarber -> Bush goes AWOL (again) (9/19/2008 9:44:31 AM)

Well, I was amazed that during this financial crisis, our "President" made only two speeches, each lasting under 2 minutes. The last time he took questions from anyone was in August. It's obvious why: if he takes any questions, he has to own up to what a total failure his administration has been, and continues to be. His opening his flap in any way would just reinforce his connection with McCain, and bring his poll numbers crashing down. So, just like his stint in the TX National Gaurd, Seinor Bush Jr. has disappeared off the scene, ducking his responsibilities.

(And Cheany isn't exactly sticking his head out of his "undisclosed location" either....)

Fucking irresponsible cowards.

MadAxeman -> RE: Bush goes AWOL (again) (9/19/2008 11:58:53 AM)

Do you really expect Bush to talk coherently for a whole 2 minutes?

Sanity -> RE: Bush goes AWOL (again) (9/19/2008 12:17:22 PM)

If speeches fixed things then the  world would be perfect by now.

Bush's administration has taken action... as a result, my 401k is better off today than it was last Friday!

What have Reid and Pelosi done?

Reid Says `No One Knows What to Do' to Solve Crisis

Pelosi and Reid Blew It

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Bush goes AWOL (again) (9/19/2008 12:29:23 PM)

What responsibility does he have for the recent trouble with the economy?  I hate to break it to you, but the Executive branch of the government has very little influence over what occurs in this country economically.  What exactly do you want him to do about it bipolar?

bipolarber -> RE: Bush goes AWOL (again) (9/19/2008 12:38:02 PM)

Well, I would at least expect him to say SOMETHING, ANYTHING more than "I'm keepin' an eye on the sitchiashun for ya...."

I'm not even going to say that what I'd really like is for him to admit it was his administrations' failure that caused the crisis in the fisrt place... but, take responsibility? Why start a precedent?

Funny, he supposedly didn't have anything to do with 9-11 either (other than not reading the daily fucking intelligence report, and going on vacation instead of doing the job...) but that didn't keep him from getting out in front of the cameras then, now did it?

Bush: hiding out like a 16 year old who just scratched his Dad's car.

I'm going to have to ask for the name of the funds you're invested in. DJI, NASDAQ, S&P 500 and every other major index and mutual fund is down or at best even with what it was at this time last Friday.

BTW if GWB had indicated a willingness to buy up bad mortgage bonds and negotiate better terms with the mortgage holders last spring then this entire mess would have been avoided and a lot of people would still have jobs and homes. Now of course most of the damage is done. As a nation we're deeper in debt and this bailout is going to cost hundreds of billions more than it had to.

bipolarber -> RE: Bush goes AWOL (again) (9/19/2008 12:43:49 PM)

Yeah...

"Well, Honey, I just went over the books, and we've lost our jobs, and our house... but the 401K is doing great... Oh, and if we had any money coming in, we could buy gas again! Oh, yeah, and we are now both on the hook for an additional $3,100... each... for the bailout."

(Although, there is a dim chance that the bad debts that the RTC entity will be accruing will eventually be worth something... in which case, maybe that will be lessened... but don't count on it.)

Irrelevant gossip, but I wonder how the Bushes' coffers are holding up.

What exactly are you basing these claims on?

I only heard part of the President's speech.

But, did anyone catch the part where he said something like,
"Let's not focus on how we got into this economic mess, let's focus
on how to get out of it?

I made a singular claim, not "claims."  I am basing it on the powers that are granted to the Executive branch under the Constitution of the United States.  Go read it.

Hippiekinkster -> RE: Bush goes AWOL (again) (9/19/2008 2:53:35 PM)

Wow, the DJI is up a whole 18% in 5 years? That's a whole 3% and change per annum. Impressive.

I reckon you'll be buying that Rolls ANY DAY NOW, eh?

DomKen -> RE: Bush goes AWOL (again) (9/19/2008 3:04:36 PM)

Sanity don't try that BS with me. The DJI closed last Friday at 11421.99 and closed to day at 11388.44. That's anet loss this week of 33.55 or 0.3%. So once more what funds are you invested in that are worth more today than they were last Friday?

MzMia -> RE: Bush goes AWOL (again) (9/19/2008 3:17:46 PM)

I did a search for a video of President's Bush's speech.

I found it on this cute lil website.[;)]

You're right. He should have said to America:

"Don't buy a house you can't afford. Don't think you can flip houses again and again for 10 and 20 percent profits after you just add a layer of paint and trim the shag carpeting."

However, Americans don't want to hear stuff like that. They want to be told everything will be ok, regardless of who tells them that.

Claim #1 was Bush has no responsibility for this.

Claim #2 was the executive branch has no influence on the economy.

Which begs the question of why the Presidential candidates are proposing economic packages since they apparently are merely impotent figureheads who have no influence on the economy.

Seems like a little bit of wasted time then, huh?

By the way, what branch of government are the Treasury and Commerce Departments a part of?

Seems they had a liitle bit of influence on our economy recently, along with the SEC.

Who appoint SEC commissioners?

Oh yeah, I remember now.  It's that guy who has no responsibility or influence over the economy.

Ken, it always a bad idea to let the facta get in the way of a good story
