Here are some polling results the Dems maybe should have thought of.  Story on Stanford study and AP/Yahoo poll.

The poll, conducted with Stanford University, suggests that the percentage of voters who may turn away from Obama because of his race could easily be larger than the final difference between the candidates in 2004 — about two and one-half percentage points.

And then you have people argue that racism isn't a problem in this country . What's new though? Not altogether surprising, unfortunately.

Now, let's hope the percentage of rabid Republicans who won't vote for a woman in high office because they believe she should be at home tending to hubby and the babies manifest themselves too, come election day [8D] .

Musicmystery -> RE: The race factor (9/20/2008 7:56:23 AM)

No no----it's OK if she hunts moose, bans Harry Potter, and believes God wants us in Iraq.

kittinSol -> RE: The race factor (9/20/2008 8:01:04 AM)

How quickly those heavy duty conservatives change their minds. You'd think they were a teenage girl in an Aeropostale store - except they're too creaky to flip-flop, so they just play the intellectual dishonesty card instead [8D] .

TheHeretic -> RE: The race factor (9/20/2008 8:10:53 AM)

Uh-oh.  Someone raised a legitimate concern about Obama's ability to win the election.  Hurry up and attack Sarah Palin...

kittinSol -> RE: The race factor (9/20/2008 8:30:34 AM)

I predicted the intellectual dishonesty with uncanny accuracy [sm=biggrin.gif] .

Sanity -> RE: The race factor (9/20/2008 8:39:02 AM)

Are you suggesting that the Left wants to ban hunting?

And the Harry Potter series hadn't even been published yet when Sarah Palin supposedly tried to ban it.

And Sarah Palin prayed that we're doing God's work while Obama was praying "GOD DAMN AMERICA" with the "Reverend" Wright at Trinity Church. She never said "God wants us in Iraq."

And you're posting in the wrong thread.

Did your legendary sense of humour disappear down the plug hole of the election :-) ?

TheHeretic -> RE: The race factor (9/20/2008 8:42:54 AM)

So you think the latent sexism of Republicans will outweigh the latent rascism in a chunk of the Dem's normally reliable base?  Do you have anything to base that on, or does it just sound good at the moment?

And you are aware that Barry and Sarah are running for completely different jobs, right?

Sanity -> RE: The race factor (9/20/2008 8:44:26 AM)

I'm not the type who laughs at everything, all the time... [sm=insane.gif]

But I do have a wicked sense of humor that is vastly under appreciated.

oopster -> RE: The race factor (9/20/2008 8:47:08 AM)

A Legitimate concern?  The only concern here concerns his colour, which is essentially saying America won't vote a black man into the job of president.  I think you're going to have trouble regardless of whether he gets ellected or not if that's the state of play.

But, that number will be dwarfed by Hillary voters who will vote for McCain to position her for a run in 2012.
Also, when are the Dems going to learn to stay away from Leftist candidates?
A Leftist will *never* win in the U.S.

Isn't a mere two and a half percentage points evidence of a lack of racism?

Racism exists on both sides and on every part of the planet...

If that's all that we're looking at, a two and a half percentage point difference, wouldn't you say that the United States has come a long ways since, say, the 1950's?

I wonder if those figures account for those who are going to be voting for Obama because of his race. And how many Democrats are for or against him solely on account of race.

Nope.  They'll blame it all on rascism, Popeye, and spin that their ignorance of realpolitik in the US is a sign of their virtue, and a reason to elect them.

They really do seem to think that admitting incompetence is a legitimate excuse for failure.

Sanity -> RE: The race factor (9/20/2008 9:04:20 AM)

If Obama loses, I'll bet you that "the race factor" gets a lot more blame than it deserves from the Left. The fact that he's the furthest left Senator with practically no experience won't even be seen as a factor by the Democrats.

Yes, they'll blame it on "racism" while Hillary voters vote for McCain by the millions! lol
Abadabba won't even take Massachusetts the "most liberal" state in the Union as there are so many Hillary supporters in that state.

cyberdude611 -> RE: The race factor (9/20/2008 9:12:21 AM)

Barack has only himself to blame as far as race being an issue in this. He states in one of his books that the reason he got into politics is because of the inspiration of Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Check out the YouTube videos of Rev Wright and you will see what I mean. The one that brought racism into this election was Obama himself.

NumberSix -> RE: The race factor (9/20/2008 9:24:03 AM)

I asked a question hereabouts about the vetting of Sara Palin, and was told that in the general estimation, these concerns were felt to be non-issues.

Now, I suspect the same is true of Democrats, they thought about Obama's race, and said, 'non-issue'.

To all the knee-jerkers out here.  Nobody other than the low-brow righties have cast any dispersions about what the fallout of race may be.

You ain't hearing anyone crying foul anywhere, other than rightie-tighties.

Do farmers consider themselves "high brow" these days?
