For those that like cbt , here is something i had tossed together last year from left over parts from the chair i made. It is a motorized ball stretcher and nipple puller. These are 12 volt dc gear reduction motors bought from a surplus store for 10 bucks each. The reasons for the springs are 2 fold, one to help maintain constant tension and also to account for any quick movement to reduce snapping action
opps forgot to add someone asked me about them in email so i figured i would share another home made toy

Damn... gear reduction head into a winch into a double-line pulley? Was that to slow it down, or does the motor just need that much mechanical advantage?

I think I have the exact same gearmotor sitting on a shelf, so of course it immediately came to mind when I saw the subject here... The winch is a nice touch, though. Love the idea of hearing the ratchet CLICK as the motor turns.

Most interesting.
By the way any safety cutoff for run away for bad switch, a lot of foot pound of pressure with reduction gear
Or are you going to roll the dice and on eday the motor wont stop and your voice will go high perm.

I will answer both in one post,
OneMoreWaste The reason was speed. The motor and gear box actually even with out power can hold the line from being pulled out. The winch gave it a 10 to 1 speed reduction and the pully setup another 2 to 1. this made it a nice , real slow, well extremely slow, pull.

WeLikeSpice - i rely on the operator of it to kill it. if the switch did fail, there is a power switch on the 12 volt dc power supply, and another on the power strip the supply is plugged into. and the plug for the power strip is in the picture, that could always be pulled also. It is one toy that wont run on its own with out someone at the button. And since the speed of it is so slow, there is plent of time to hit one of those.
