The guy was distributing child porn. Hardly the situation you painted it as where some guy was sharing a link to like a sports-illustrated swimsuit pic or something and just by chance the web host also had anal sex in some other directory and a minor happened to be walking past and noticed it.
He even pleaded guilty to it. And the setence wasent '30 years' it was 60 months. And that was due in part to him also being guilty of position of two stolden handguns.
The Williams case is actual a substantial victory for internet porn law. It reaffirmed the 2002 decision that computer-fakes are constitutionally protected free speach. They found the statue was NOT overly broad and nobody would be alowed to use the law for anything more than its intended scope.
This is just the kind of panic induced hysteria that drives me so batty. Someone claims that a photo of anal sex that accedently gets shown to a minor causes 30 years in prision yet when you look into the actual case its nothing like that at all. But people remember and retell the '30 years for accedental picture showing' and use that as ~proof~ that we live in a puriticanal police state.
Heck, even the Julie Amero case was closer to the situation you describe than the Williams case.
