tsat, LOL. consider this. a mutual fund charges a 1% -2.5% annual fee- and possibly a redemption fee. The point is wall street always get a cut. So 700 bn. = 7bn if the fee is 1% 21bn if the fee 2.5% lets take 7 billion. what could you city buy with that?

As one of the conditions of any "bailout" or more likely "loan" or "loan with an equity position, those firms on Wall Street should be made to fire the top 20% of management. That way we don't have the same idiots that got us into this mess in charge all over again. It should be very obvious to everyone by now that we just can't have "business as usual." Whenever I hear the saying, "Big business and government partnering together" I know it really means, "The Taxpayer's going to get screwed again!"

I don't care if a CEO loses his job. I do care about the mail room clerks, secretaries, etc that can't survive. I don't care that Lehman's isn't any more. I do care about the people who had investments there who suddenly found that their brokers filled their account with Lehman stock which is now worthless. I don't care if a mortgage broker firm goes out of business. I do care about what happens to the people who now have no homes. I live in an area where IBM used to be the major employer. Overnight they closed a dozen plants employing tens of thousands of people who had worked on mainframes. I've seen the results when that happened. Everyone else's house was worth less because of the glut of foreclosures. Extra programs at schools ended because of the need to buy suddenly impoverished students meals, school materials etc. Alcohol abuse, drug abuse, spousal and child abuse rates skyrocketed. Police services and emt services needed more money. Therefore town programs like once yearly big item garbage pickup ended. So did removal of dead deer from the roadways, now they get pushed to the side to wait for an overfed vulture to make an appearance. Destabilizing a neighborhood, or a nation is not a good idea.

At this point, there appears to be no end in sight. In 6 more months, I am scared to think how things might be. At what point will we begin to see the thousands, if not millions of jobs the bailout should help produce?

I'm angry as well......and angry at a system in what could have been the greatest country the world has ever seen.....for not having a health care system in place. No; 'don't get sick' is not a health care system. And...youve got to consider...who brought all this about.

There was a great article recently by Warren Buffet in Newsweek that explains perfectly how I feel about this whole mess. We will survive it. Stupided down version... Stupid people that got stupid loans, lost and will lose, stupidly over priced houses. Stupid companies that loaned those stupid people money are sucking up our stupid future tax dollars. Stupid people that were employed with stupid companies are losing, or going to lose, their stupidly over paid jobs. A lot of less stupid people are also going to suffer because of a few stupid people. We will survive it.
