So I typically read a lot, but I work in a lab and things get rather boring and repetitive. So i buy books and download them onto my ipod so that I have something besides music to listen to sooo my question is this...

What are your book suggestions? What's your favorite book. What's funny and witty and well written?

I love Chuck Palahniuk.  A strange mind.  Haunted is my favorite.

I have been OBSESED with anything Zoe Oldenbourg.  Especially “The World is Not Enough” and it’s sequel “The Cornerstone”.  Screw the RenFaire, this is the 1200s as it was by a well known historian.   Also, if you are more into fantasy, the books in the Temeraire series (N. Novik) and Jonathan Strange (S. Clarke)

Being a science fiction nut I'd suggest the following:
Tracy Hickman
Margaret Weiss
Stephen R Donaldson
Frank Herbert
Arthur Clarke
Mercedes Lackey
Anne McCaffery

Cory Doctorow is da BOMB.  Really smart, funny, and on target.  William Gibson, too.

Try Tom Sharpe. His South African titles like Riotous Assembly and Indecent Exposure are brutal and hilarious. They poke fun at the regime and have outrageous sex.

Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z. Brite.  I can't say what it's about because it goes WAY against the TOS here, but it's well-written nonetheless.  Also, anything in the "Dark" series by Christine Feehan.  D/s vampire themes in most of the books.

That was one of the most disturbing books I ever read, but I couldn't put it down.  She's a wonderful author.

I'm a fan of A.S.Byatt.  If you can, get hold of a copy of "Little Black Book of Stories". Every story in this collection of five is better than the one before.

I liked the anita k hamilton anita blake books but I don't know if they are on tape. my second suggestion would be to look through your library's website if they have one for books on tape.
