Status: offline 		Power, however you define it, is the cancer of vanilla relationships. The reason why divorce is so high is because partners fight for power, fight for control, fight for dominance. In any relationship there has to be a clear and agreed upon leader, that's why the military works.

I regularly use the image of Archie Bunker coming home and sitting in his favorite chair as Edith scampers to get his beer. Archie is the understood leader. However the key to that scene is the joy on Ediths face as she returns. It is her pleasure to serve, it is her accepted role to serve. Even as the show progressed, Meathead challenged Archies views, never him being the Alpha male. Also an underlying theme of this relationship was Edith always respected Archie, and Archie always respected Edith.

That's a false overgeneralization. They really are coming fast and furious today.

People CAN work together without struggling for power and without a clear dom/sub dynamic. All of my current relationships are vanilla- there is no dominant or submissive. We play with eachother, sometimes one will top and the other will bottom and sometimes we just hang out. We work well like that.

Social archetypes are not the same as personal orientations. And believe it or not, some dominants enjoy getting submissives a drink, too.

Hell no! Archie wasn't the first Dom. I think a really horny stong cave man was. Think about it. He went out, found a girl he thought was cute, abudcted her, pulled her by the hair to his cave & screwed the crap out of her while she struggled to get away.

Pretty good old Doms huh? And at least 30-40,000.00 years earlier.

I do like Archie and Ediths Style and Grace though. They knew their jobs and what expectations the other had. Definately a Dom/sub relationship.

The first Dom on T.V. was Pepe le Pue, Geez the way that skunk controlled his women made such an impression on me, at such an early age......16...O.K. I have a cartoon fetish, get over it!

I'm not sure I'd agree with this. Archies motives seemed to be rooted in love not fear. Bullys are all about fear. Though he was everything the posts said he was, I believe they loved each other. I believe Archie truly lived to love, protect, and provide for his family. As it seemed Edith lived to serve him and obey him.
