What a disgrace and insult to Jewish American citizens that the leadership of the "Major American Jewish Organiztions (JTO) would disinvite Sarah Palin because it was upsetting to Hillary Clinton and Obama!  Rather than have one of the most popular woman in America these days at their rally in New York to protest against Ahmadinejad at the United Nations, the leadership felt it was more important to preserve the integrity of their support for Obama and Clinton, and disinvited Palin to their rally.  They brough shame down on all of their membership.  Israel should have been more important than keeping their politica agenda.

Yeah the nerve of these guys...they chose to have Hillary ,she of the 18 million votes, instead of Palin she of the 30 min vetting....sheesh!!!!

When I heard that Palin`s church had the head of "Jews For Jesus" speak there, right then and there, I knew McCain would lose the Jewish vote,if it got out.

It is getting out.

JFJ is one of the most loathed groups, by the Jewish community.I heard the head of the JDL call them anti-Semites and worse.

If the JFJ/Palin connection gets out,the Jewish community will either vote for Mr.Obama or stay home on election day.

I'd disinvite Palin just because she's a conniving idiot, never mind because someone else didn't want her there.

You missed the other stories on this one...

"This is insulting. This is embarrassing, especially to Gov. Palin, to me and I think it should be to every single New Yorker," Assemblyman Dov Hikind, D-Brooklyn, told CBS 2 HD.

The groups sponsoring the rally against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaking at the UN were reportedly told, "it could jeopardize their tax exempt status" if they had Palin and not Clinton or Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden on hand.

So all politicians were disinvited, most prominently, Palin.

"It's an absolute shame that this has happened," Hikind said. "To threaten organizations … to threaten the Conference of Presidents that if you don't withdraw the invitation to Gov. Palin we're going to look into your tax exempt status … that's McCarthyism."

Another Jewish group tried to step into the breach by inviting Palin to a different protest a day earlier.

"I'm absolutely appalled at the behavior of the Democrats," said Bob Kunst of Defenders.net. "I'm a Democrat and for the first time in my life I'm going to vote Republican. I can't take it anymore."

I am almost speechless about this one.

Really. I guess Freedom of Association is another one of those "rights" Republicans only pay lip service to. Screw the First Amendment; guns are more funner. Of course, when the Smirking Chimp had his "Town Hall" meetings, and disinvited any contrary opinions, to the point of having them forcibly ejected and/or arrested, that was OK.

Crocodile Tears from the righties. All these tough independent "Capitalists" can't handle a little dissent. Waaaaah.

I don't know (personally) any Progressives who are so partisan as to completely ignore things if, say, a Progressive Prez started an illegal war, tortured people illegally in violation of international law, stole billions from the Treasury to fund Halliburton and all the other criminals involved in Iraq, and so on and etc. yada yada.

I myself say if that Jefferson guy with all that money in the freezer is guilty, hang his ass out to dry. Any other Dems who are guilty of crimes, prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

What I WON'T do is try and claim that some guy in an airport bathroom set the congressman up because he wasn't vehement enough with his rejection (yes, I have heard this apologia from a rightie). Or blame people who just wanted to get into a house, from an apartment, for the collusion between mortgage loan people, underwriters, appraisers, and whoever else stood to make a few bucks. They didn't have a fucking chance. I cannot recall a Republican who even came close to suggesting that anyone on "their team" should have to obey the same laws as everyone else.

They are speshul. [sm=alien.gif]

Or claim that the future of the world depends on giving away close to a trillion dollars to MBA sewer-dwellers but whine for months about providing health care for children.
"Those kids should get jobs if they want health care! It's not the job of society to bail them out!"
"Those thieves who ripped off an entire country deserve to be bailed out because they couldn't help it! They were forced to lie out their asses about swap and derivative valuations! Otherwise they wouldn't get invited to the Xmas party, and go to Club in Fiji, and bank that million dollar bonus!"

How can anybody with the least sense of moral decency support the Republicans' unprecedented transfer of earnings from real workers (physical labor and the like) to the thieves who not only cannot police themselves (THAT, my friends, is the sick punchline of Republican "Capitalism") but can't even try and do the right thing AFTER they've fucked everything up? They can't even admit any blame!!! What filthy scum!!!

I hear a lot of Republicans whine and piss and moan about "how divided the country is" and how "partisan" things are, but they can't own up to the fact that as soon as they got a majority under Newt's "Contract on America" they IMMEDIATELY froze out the Dems. No more "across the aisle" compromises. No more Bipartisan initiatives. It was "fuck you, Dems." (listen th the Biden interview on NPR, about 30 minutes in. HE WAS THERE.

And they want me, after running the US into the ground, invading a sovereign country, failing to find Bin Laden after SEVEN  years, completely fucking up the FEMA aid for Katrina and the Twin Towers (so where is the new building on the site? Buehler? Buehler?); virtually eliminating bankruptcy protection for the middle class while strengthening it for Guess who?; allowing illegals to flood the nation; and so on and on and on and on and on... they want me to not only vote for them, but continue to smile and provide my own lube while they are fucking me with a rabid porcupine wrapped in barbed wire? Really?

I am firmly convinced that anyone who supports a right-wing agenda needs some L-Dopa to bring them out of their comas like DeNiro in "Awakenings". Or an anti-Zombie vaccine like in "Resident Evil: Apocalypse"

This is real simple. This group is a not for profit and cannot engage in partisan politics, including spending their money on it. Inviting Palin and not Biden during the general election campaign effectively pays for a partisan event which isn't allowed.

I thought you republicans were in favor of enforcing all the laws of this nation? Or is it only when those laws are convenient to you that you're in favorof them?

Appreciate the education.  Did not realize that the group was being non-partisan when they invited Hillary Clinton..how stupid of me..I should have known that in New York City being a democrat is like..well, like being a pumpkin, you just are...and it has nothing to do with your orange color or, in the case of the leadership of Presidents of Jewish Organizations as being partisan.

A rally that is about banning the head of a member state speaking at the UN is not a rally for freedom of expression so any politician turning up and claiming they believe in free speech is being totally hypocritical anyway.

Sorry Obama but you shouldn't go, not even for those few extra votes you obviously hope to get by attending.

They invited folks from both parties, one side backed out because the other side was going to be there.  How does it then become partisan if the one side still shows up?

Are you suggesting that if a politician from a particular party speaks at an event of a non profit, that the non profit is somehow breaking the law if the other party is not represented?  Would this also apply to a candidate speaking at a particular church?

Interesting take on it.

DomKen -> RE: The leadership of Jewish Organization are focused on democrat politics rather than Israel surviving! (9/23/2008 10:46:54 AM)

It's partisan if anyone involved in a general or primary election campaign is involved and it isn't open to all candidates. Maybe you two truly don't get it but inviting one candidate and not the other is a big no no under campaign finance law. When they invited Palin they had to invite Biden not HRC or risk their status. That's why groups like the NAACP and the American Legion have to invite both candidates even if there is no chance of one or the other showing up.

Whine all you want but the law is the law.

bipolarber -> RE: The leadership of Jewish Organization are focused on democrat politics rather than Israel surviving! (9/23/2008 10:49:20 AM)

Yes, you are right. Let's send in some armed troops, and FORCE those people to have Sarah Palin as their "guest."

That would probably be the best photo op about what our government is becoming, since the Elian Gonzolez fiasco...

So a candidate speaking at a particular church the day before a particular holiday doesn't violate that law?  Even if an invite was not extended to the other party?

Thanks for educating me on the law... [8|]

This decision did Palin a favour, because she has no clue what the discussion would have been about anyway (after all, she can't see Iran from her yard). But hey, why dismiss yet another opportunity to whine and cry that she is being given a rough ride?

I could care less what kind of ride Palin is given.  My concern is that certain folks are threatening non profits with losing their exempt status to achieve political positioning.  Both sides made a mountain out of a molehill, and one side took it a bit farther than it ever should have gone.

That's because Sarah Palin is a Nitwit who is unqualified for a seat on a School Board in the lower 48. It's an insult that Christine Todd Whitman AND Kay Bailey Hutchenson got left behind and this moron got the gig.

Goniff means 'Thief'.
