The space has been leased, the application approved. We met with two prospective employees today, and like both. We have a plan to create a photo studio, art gallery, and private dungeon in our home town, were nothing even remotely like it exists.

We want to be 100% legal and very upscale. Any employee even suspected of crossing the line between BDSM role play and sex-for-hire will be asked to leave. We want to have experienced professionals come in to help train the staff, as well as give them a space to work while they are in town.

We have talked about it, thought about it...it seems that it is going to happen. I still need to build some furniture...but that should be kinda fun.

So give me your well wishes, your warnings, your tips and your advice. Tell me I am an idiot (like I have never heard that before on these fora) or let me know if you'd like to come up as a guest Domme. Just share this momentous occasion with me...like many others I have shared on these boards!

Sounds like great fun!

Watch out for those pesky zoning laws, I'm sure you've already thought of this, but get a lawyer to approve it. If your town doesn't allow dildos ( mine doesn't

) then they might have an issue with this.

... Then again, you are in NY. ^_^

I'd love to visit as a guest switch when you get it up and running.

Good luck, Taggard. Keep us posted... Here in Tampa, it's mostly very private dungeons; there's one reasonably ok one called Master's Quest that advertises, but it's too long of a drive and too expensive for casual play for me. Maybe there's a better one around, but I haven't found it. I'm curious to find out how business is for you; one of these days I'll want to open my own up, and do it right. I look forward to witnessing your venture.

Coolness. Were you able to land one of the abandoned brick warehouses/factories for ambience sake? I always liked the converted building where Rochester Custom Leathers was located.

I wanted to share what I learned from the Quest and how their theatrical license avoided other licensing and legal issues forthem. I couldn't find the links and references I wanted though. I know a few dungeon owners that join SCA and/or include a membership contract stating that it is for "theatrical reenactment" only.

“If the pro dom’s behavior includes sexual contact or the direct acceptance of a fee, the club owner can be charged with pimping or pandering and the dominatrix with prostitution. These same charges can be filed against individuals who host BDSM parties in their homes if there is sex activity at the party and guests are required to pay an entrance fee. In all states but Nevada prostitution is illegal, with most states limiting the definition to the exchange of sex for a fee. In some states (like Arizona), laws related to prostitution include sadomasochistic acts and in others (like California) sexual contact must be made to be charged. Under California’s law, paid BDSM that includes only humiliation, physical punishment, and/or violent acts would not constitute prostitution even though those acts are for the purpose of sexual gratification.
Club owners who offer bondage and torture equipment for use by patrons can be sued for negligence in the event the equipment fails and causes someone physical or psychological injury. The same is true for private owners of such equipment. It should be noted that liability insurance (or even a liability waiver) might not offer protection (or an affirmative defense) if a suit is filed.”

Yes. Good luck with your project. My only recommendation for you is that when you build your equipment, do not skimp on safety. Over-engineer everything to the nth degree. Since the equipment will be used by many, make sure it is as strong and safe as you can make it. Use items such as carriage bolts for all the major connection points. Stainless or load bearing hardware where possible. Safety and durability come first and esthetics come second. If you can incorporate them both, then all the better. Again, good luck with your new business venture.

I lament that the local dungeon to me, Edges, seems to have lost their building in the summer (dunno if they found a new one yet).
I always toyed with the idea of setting up a swing club, vanilla for most here, but, fun nonetheless so I give kudos to Rochester!
