LDsbottom -> Another trip to the MegaloMart another goodie. (9/23/2008 7:49:10 AM)

Alright so being out on business this morning from the office i decided to head down to the local MegaloMart and see what i could find the Ladies to go along with the nifty new velcro cuffs i constructed them over the weekend. i headed for hardware and in a short time found various rings and hooks and dodads and whatsits that seemed like they would do great in a dungeon setting. i thought now if i simply had something to attach these fine implements of impending doom to. Forward now to the lumber area, dowls yes your every day dowl with a twist, i found some made of oak. Right an oak dowl 36 inches long...looks like the begining of a spreader bar to me, well long story short, some heavey duty eye hooks, some stain and varnish, and in no time i made the Ladies a very nice spreader bar, fit for Queens. Yes my creative lifestyle juices are now flowing, what can i build next..maybe something good maybe something bad! i guess we wont know till i build it.

Sweet. Good job.

As a finishing touch for wooden dowel spreader bars, you might look for those rubber chair/table leg ends, used to help protect the furniture leg as well as the floor. Get them sized for the dowel, and it provides a nicer finish for the end of the dowel than the straight-cut end, and it's a bit safer, too. Steel eye fittings for the dowel ends simply screw right through the material. A nice look is to paint the dowel a glossy black, and use black furniture leg ends to match.

Thanks for that bit of fixer ipper advice. I did not really care for the ends but with those additions it should make it very nice. The Ladies have decided to go with Matte Black, so i sanded it and painted it Matte Black.
On a side note, i was shopping today in another of our wonderous Megalomarts, and found some clips in the vehicle ti down section. These clips open and close by way of a tension bolt, the tighter you crank it the harder it bites, they also have ready made weight chain holes in them ( how thoughtful) They are constructed from a space age polimyer (aka plastic). The lil suckers hace grip teath too.
These stores are Fetish and BDSM warehouses. Oh we also bought one of the Ladies a nice Crop/Bat there as well.

Warning: Oak has really bad split resistance. I mean it's terrible. I've had 5/8" oak dowels split while driving in 18 ga wire nails.

Clamp down the dowel and pre-drill the holes to prevent splitting and finish off the eyebolts with rounded capnuts.  You may have to hacksaw the bolts down to size, but it's far safer than letting them stick out - and wingnuts will scrape you up if they catch you wrong.

Even Matte black can be protected with a few coats of clear matte spray acrylic or varnish, which will preserve the finish but allow for easy clean up and a longer lasting tool. ;o)

Great finds, LDs ... what you've discovered are 'pervertibles' and they are EVERYWHERE... keep your eyes and mind open to the possibilities and you're well on your way!
