“Tears in a young slave's eyes…”
But seriously, once I laid on top of a yacht deck overnight as it headed to the Dry Tortugas (closer to Cuba than Key West).  Never had I seen the stars, Milky Way etc so clear and close…I often think that the timelessness and awe I felt might be something like subspace…

The most beautiful place?  Lake Louise in the dead of winter.
The most beautiful thing?  When my um's laugh, that really hearty, from down deep laughter that is just infectious to all those around them... The female sounds like a porpoise and the male sounds like a little crazy man..  Nothing makes me happier than hearing them laugh like that.

Late September outside of Park City, Utah, on top of a mountain, late at night, laying on my back, with a million stars overhead.

Driving back from Vegas.....it was one of the most spectacular sunsets I had ever seen.......finally gave up and pulled over to the side of the road to watch it.....and of course, I had no camera!!!  I love to watch the sun set and rise......over the desert or over the ocean, it's absolutely beautiful!  I have spent many a morning and nightfall on beaches all over the coasts just watching the beauty of it.

Unfortunately, too many damn lights here to see the stars very clearly....one of these nights I'll have to drive out into the desert to see them.

Taking the um related stuff out of it.......The first.... and only....... time I went skydiving...I was solo....the visual, physical & mental experience was something that I've never been able to describe adequately......

It's between that and the weekend in Fort Lauderdale with Lana the Polish stewardess from Chicago......

The most awe inspiring things I have come across in the ocean.  For some reason it is the one place that I feel most at home.  Hearing and feeling my own heartbeat, being completely weightless, surrounded by all of that life and color.  The one place that will never leave my mind is just off of Key Largo, John Pennekamp Corral Park is simply amazing.

Depending on the time of year and time of day, the light breaks just at the head and hands of the statue.  It is one of my favorite places on Earth.

Most beautiful thing:  What RS said - Love.

Most beautiful place:  Driving at dusk from Virginia to North Carolina and driving the biway route that ran between the Albermarle Sound and the Roanoke Sound, from the barrier reef island toward inland.  The sun was setting right in front of me and the colors this sunset produced were the most awe-inspiring.  I had to turn off the car stereo to experience this in silence.  I felt like I was in the middle of a water color painting.  What I experienced that night by myself was so profound it made me cry, and I wrote a long entry about it in my journal. From here I kept driving and ended up on another biway - four miles long - that ran between the Albermarle Sound and the Croatan Sound. The colors reflected on the water were spectacular and completely breathtaking.  All I can say is my soul was touched, and it was truly a spiritual experience.

Thanks for this thread!  It brought me to remember that event.  I even went back to my journal to read about it.

Standing on the top of a very large dune in the Rub al-Khali.
Looking up at the Sistene Ceiling, the David and the Last Supper.
Actually...looking at every single piece of art and architecture in Italy.
The Colosseum.
The Grand Canyon, Mt. Rushmore, Crazyhorse.
Watching a hawk fly five feet away, parallel to me while riding on the back of his Harley.
The tulip fields in Holland.
Watching the sun rise over the Atlantic
And by far...experiencing the birth of both of my daughters.

The first time I saw my ex, Jay..

innumerable sunrises and sunsets

the day I realized that I had got my shit together enough that my Mom started to LIKE me again (she never stopped LOVING me)

Holding in my arms (at age 2 weeks) my friend Ross's baby boy....

Realizing that (for a reason beyond my comprehension) that there are people here that truly love me....

eta: Notre Dame (Paris... yay for gargoyles!!)
Westminster Abbey
St. Paul's
The smile on a friends face when I make them smile without trying
