i was given the terminology "knight" by a Domme. Could S/someone please tell me what in the world it means? i asked Her, but She couldn't explain it, its just what i am, according to Her. i however see me as a stubborn, picky individual with a sub streak. i dont know...anyway...thanks Y/ya'll

The only thing that springs to mind is the concept of devotional sex.  The quotation below is taken from the web site posted underneath.

A female who practices Devotional Sex is called a Princess. The main benefits for her are a better relationship with increased intimacy, a much better sex life, and enjoying sensual experiences with her Knight. But being a Princess does require effort and commitment.
A male who practices Devotional Sex is called a Knight. The main benefits for him are a significantly more intense and better sex life with more sexual activity, a constant energizing sexual feeling throughout the day, and a better relationship. All these joys also come at a price, but one that every Knight is willing to pay.

The Princess and Knight have enhanced their sensual and sexual lives by practicing parts of two ancient Eastern techniques, and a mild form of a more modern practice.

But, ultimately, if she can't tell you what she means, it's unlikely the rest of us can be much help.

She gave you the bloody name she should be able to tell you what it means. I'd be more confused that she decided to stick a name on you without even knowing what it meant or why.

"I'm gonna call you a cucumber from now on."
"Why? What does that mean?"
"I don't know...I just feel like it."

Is she from Indiana? Maybe she meant Bobby Knight?

Just kidding ;-)

I expect it is a reference to a code of chivalrous behavior practiced in the past by knights, particularly towards a queen. Pixel is the resident expert about such matters.

A picky, honorable, strong (yet human), tactful, dominant, semi or unassuming male who falls at the feet of a chosen Female and says: how may I please You, how may I serve You? ...Yes, that my definition of a Knight. ;)

Thank you VERY much Venatrix for the very first mention of Devotional Sex in an internet forum (that I know of!).

As my site is not yet completed I have not advertised it yet. But all visitors are welcome. And any comments are even more welcome. The site is devotionalsex.com

The idea of using the term Knight for the male in Devotional Sex came because it was a very good match for Princess.

If you think of the medieval Knight kneeling devotedly in front of his Princess, you don't see a weak man. Rather you see a strong man who is proud to serve.

The title Princess in Devotional Sex is used to capture that the female in Devotional Sex has power over all sexual and sensual activities, but she does not take control over all activities. Devotional Sex is sort of mild FemDom for a non-dominant woman.

One problem with BDSM is that probably every word has two or more meanings. What matters is not what others think, but what your Mistress thinks. So ask her!

Cheers,
MichaelK

Just a quick comment for those who looked at the outline of Devotional Sex and thought it sounded rather tame compared to BDSM ...

Most of the site is aimed at adding some kink to vanilla.

Where Devotional Sex is very powerful and useful for a man interested in BDSM is that it can be a way to have his non-dominant partner become happy with something much more kinky than vanilla.

If your partner is not wanting to become your Mistress, she might be happy to become your Princess.

It has worked for me many times. Perhaps it will work for you as well!

*sigh*  I had a knight once.  He was wonderful.  I always saw him as that Lancelot type.  Strong, handsome, brave, brilliant, very alpha male who would bow only to ME.   He was the one that was supposed to come riding in on his big white charger and save me from my dreadfully mundane life.  Such a sweet talker.

Then I found out that he was a gigolo and would play any part for any woman willing to pony up for his services.  Really slings a load of crap on that once shiny armor.  [:@]

The only Knight that I could tell you about is Gladys. The only reason I can do that is because I heard it thru the grapevine.

thetammyjo -> RE: umm, whats a knight in d/s exactly? (9/25/2008 7:32:11 AM)

To me "knight" is one valid model of submission.

A "knight" would be someone who is highly self-motivated and highly functional whose purpose is to protect and honor the lady or lord he is in service to. This service I'd see as more public and less private in nature.

I always think Marcus of "Babylon 5" when I think of a "knight" -- not just his relationship to Ivanova but also Delenn.

("knight" could be male or female but I'm using "he" since it seems more common to apply to men)

That depends.  Some knights are longer than others.

In my relationship, I'm very much Mistress's "knight"...as she likes to say, I'm her knight in shining rubber.  I am completely devoted to her and only her.  I selflessly serve her to the best of my abilities, defend and protect her and her honor should she require it, and treat her as the queen she is.  It is a position of strength and honor...putting her wants and needs above my own.  Her happiness is what matters most to me.

It's like I'm a mix of a personal assistant, psychotically protective bodyguard, and well-trained attack tiger.

Just my two cents....

MaamJay -> RE: umm, whats a knight in d/s exactly? (9/27/2008 5:02:02 AM)

I have used the concept of a knight ... as in a strong one who bows down to, protects and serves his Queen (I'd prefer that over princess any day, I tend to associate princess with immature spoiled brats!) ... to explain that male submission does not equate to weakness. It works!

I resemble that remark...  Actually it's a play on my real name Priscilla.
