When Couric asked how Alaska's closeness to Russia enhanced her foreign policy experience, Palin said, "Well, it certainly does because our ... our next-door neighbors are foreign countries."

I don't know what to say.....

Apparently the Couric interview didn't go to well according to the reviews. SNL seems to exist during the weekdays now.

kittinSol -> RE: Not Making This Up (9/25/2008 7:49:25 PM)

SNL has found its mistress in Palin [sm=biggrin.gif]. The Couric interview will go down on record: it's bordering on painful though. Why, why, why did the Republican strategists keep her locked up all these days? They did her a great disservice, that of not being able to train with reporters until now. It's wonderful to watch, of course, but this shouldn't be so entertaining. It's just wrong [8D] .  The bit about second-guessing Israel is pretty priceless as well.

This woman is priceless.
If she does not become our next Vice-President, she certainly would make
a great comedian.

I don't know about making a great comedian, but she'd certainly make a great hockey mom, and a wonderful moose killer.

LookieNoNookie -> RE: Not Making This Up (9/25/2008 8:28:30 PM)

I'm voting for her because she's hot.

I think Biden and Obama both make far worse gaffes than she does. And they're both career politicians... I'd much prefer a moose hunting Alaska babe than a life-long Washington insider

Biden makes a gaffe every day....

He screwed up today talking to Jewish people and telling them they need to get over the fact that that Iran is one day going to have to a nuclear weapon.

Way to go Joe! That will get those pro-Israel voters!

slvemike4u -> RE: Not Making This Up (9/25/2008 8:44:09 PM)

I've said it before I will say it again...selecting this train wreck as his VP candidate has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt his unfitness for office....it is simple, and apparently so is McCain.

MzMia -> RE: Not Making This Up (9/25/2008 8:45:34 PM)

If Obama wins just chuck it all, and become my
slave.[:D]
I would enjoy a Republican slave, you could talk trash, and
I could do a lot of fun things to you, to make you shut up.

TheHeretic -> RE: Not Making This Up (9/25/2008 9:00:24 PM)

Sarah Palin is like a really talented minor leaguer, suddenly called up to the pros.  I think she's just a little lost, and off her stride.

The right pep talk, some different people on her prep staff, she can turn it around.

Did Biden really indicate the Obama administration would be ok with a nuclear Iran?  Damn, that would have been dumb.  What's his excuse?

cyberdude611 -> RE: Not Making This Up (9/25/2008 9:09:37 PM)

It was a gaffe. He has said in the past that he does not support a nuclear Iran. But his positions has been strange lately though....from what I understand he has said he does not think sanctions are going to work but that he's against opening another front to the war. So Im not quite sure what that is supposed to mean....

I'm sorry, but I thought Russia was a foreign country??  Where is Sarah wrong?  Don't you think being on the border with another country, don't you think if you lived in Alaska with it's air force bases and missles all there for one reason...to present a deterrent to that particular foreign country, don't you think as Governor or the State of Alaska and being intimately made aware in briefings and liason with the military in your State there for only one reason...Russia!   I don't think anyone, including Sarah Palin, feels she is an "expert" on foreign policy.  However, it seems to me that Bill Clinton was not an expert when he was sworn in, and this fellow Barry Obama might have a few more stamps in his passport than Sarah, but I guess in fairness we should eliminate his junior year abroad trip.
And could anyone on the left PLEASE tell me somehing Biden, a man who has been on the government dole all his life, has done in his decades in the Senate, or legislation sponsored in the Senate where he had a profound impact on U.S. foreign affairs?    Sorry, should not use a word like "affairs" in a question about democrats.

I agree (must be that broken clock rule [;)] )

She's nervous, getting flustered, and reverting to talking points.  Not the same thing at all.

Is telling the truth a gaffe? It seems to me those people not wanting the hear the truth are making the gaffe.

The woman is clearly out of her depth.

Vendaval -> RE: Not Making This Up (9/26/2008 2:42:38 AM)

Yeah, the political satire writers are having a field day.
Remember the good old days of VP Dan Quayle?
Those public statements that were so bad as to be positively painful?  Word was that he was not to be let out for public speaking without his wife by his side to whisper in his ear before he opened his mouth.

Put down your drinks before reading.

Here are some of his actual quotes -

"What a waste it is to lose one's mind. Or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is."

"The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century."

"I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy -- but that could change."

"I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future."

"The future will be better tomorrow."

"Mars is essentially in the same orbit . . . Mars is somewhat the same distance from the Sun, which is very important. We have seen pictures where there are canals, we believe, and water. If there is water, that means there is oxygen. If oxygen, that means we can breathe."

"We're going to have the best-educated American people in the world."

"People that are really very weird can get into sensitive positions and have a tremendous impact on history."

"We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a part of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a part of Europe."

"[It's] time for the human race to enter the solar system."

"Verbosity leads to unclear, inarticulate things."

"I stand by all the misstatements that I've made."

Where did you copy your first quote from? I looked at the article and the closest I could find was this -
Asked what insight she had gained from living so close to Russia, she said: "They're our next-door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."

You didn't by any chance rewrite her words a little bit did ya?
